BBC Story
About 2,000 protesters are marching in Washington hoping to pressure President George W Bush into renewing a ban on assault weapons.
I guess the AWB isn't that much of a concern.

So much for the Millon Moms.

IMHO, the gun debate is merely a symbol of the larger cultural wars between the heavily urbanized areas of the country and the rest of the nation.

If it wasn't guns, it'd be some other issue.

It does get a little testy at times.

It'd be quicker and easier to sort this out with a duel, like in the olden days.

Can we build mecha's to duel in?

But aren't most *protest* just loosing steam altogether? The pro-abortion crowd seemed a little low this year.

Didn't Bush already say he was going to sign it anyways? They're protesting for Bush to do something that he was going to do anyway?
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

Bush said he'd sign an extension to the current ban.
What the million mommies really want is a stronger ban, but they'll settle for pressuring Bush into actively pushing for a renewal of the current ban.

Bush isn't actively working for a ban because it'd cost him support when he needs all the support he can get, and it'd never get past the House.

Those who are passionate about gun control tend to be the type of voter who wouldn't vote for a conservative Republican anyway, while the progun types usually would vote for a conservative except when he stabs them in the back.

Bush is trying to play both sides with the issue by saying he'd sign it, but not working for its passage and knowing that it'd never make it through the House.

You could throw the knife. It should be effective at the typical dueling range. Besides, dueling pistols come in twos, just in case the other guy doesn't bring his own. 8)

Have a very nice day.

Isn't the AWB the one based purely on aesthetics?
