Favourite Disney movie song?

Post by Gandalf »

Roughly since the beginning of time, Disney has been taking old stories and doing animated musicals about them. Whilst the quality of some of the movies may have been questionable, the songs are usually pretty good.

So, who here has a favourite song?

Mine is Be Prepared from The Lion King.
"Oh no, oh yeah, tell me how can it be so fair
That we dying younger hiding from the police man over there
Just for breathing in the air they wanna leave me in the chair
Electric shocking body rocking beat streeting me to death"

- A.B. Original, Report to the Mist

"I think it’s the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately."

Under The Sea or Circle of Life I think.

Circle of Life because it's a good song and I think that the Lion King is the best of all the Disney films on reflection - it's the only one to show actual murder as far as I know, feel free to correct me, but none of the others explicitly show it, the Lion King has a cold calculated murder with a cool bad guy and death lines... and one of the best sound tracks as well, suitably epic.

But I dont mean to hijack with a debate on the relative 'epic' levels of the Disney films.

I could never remember the lyrics to that! My favorite is either Hakuna Matata, or Can't Wait to Be King.

Mine is probably Friend Like Me from Aladdin. However, as far as Disney movies themselves go, most of my favorites are the few good non-musicals, especially The Emperor's New Groove.
どうして?お前が夜に自身お触れるから。
Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shape-shifting Master of Darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil,
but a foolish samurai warrior wielding a magic sword stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow

seeks to return to the past, and undo the future that is Aku...

Be Prepared

I never thought hyenas essential
They're crude and unspeakably plain
But maybe they've a glimmer of potential
If allied to my vision and brain

I know that your powers of retention
Are as wet as a warthog's backside
But thick as you are, pay attention
My words are a matter of pride

It's clear from your vacant expressions
The lights are not all on upstairs
But we're talking kings and successions
Even you can't be caught unawares

So prepare for a chance of a lifetime
Be prepared for sensational news
A shining new era
Is tiptoeing nearer
And where do we feature?
Just listen to teacher

I know it sounds sordid
But you'll be rewarded
When at last I am given my dues
And injustice deliciously squared
Be prepared!

It's great that we'll soon be connected
With a king who'll be all-time adored

Of course, quid pro quo, you're expected
To take certain duties on board
The future is littered with prizes
And though I'm the main addressee
The point that I must emphasize is
You won't get a sniff without me!

So prepare for the coup of the century
(Oooh!)
Be prepared for the murkiest scam
(Oooh... La! La! La!)
Meticulous planning
(We'll have food!)
Tenacity spanning
(Lots of food)
Decades of denial
(We repeat)
Is simply why I'll
(Endless meat)
Be king undisputed
(Aaaaaaah...)
Respected, saluted
(...aaaaaaah...)
And seen for the wonder I am
(...aaaaaaah!)
Yes, my teeth and ambitions are bared
(Oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo)
Be prepared!

Yes, our teeth and ambitions are bared -
Be prepared!

Hope I've helped.

I second "Be Prepared" from The Lion King, and I also nominate the theme song from Beauty and the Beast ("Tale as Old as Time"?) and of course "Up There!" from South Park, Bigger, Longer and Uncut (more of a Disney musical then the Mouse's latest efforts anyways :P).

hmmm, although I dispise Disney it would have to be one of the following:

Beprepared, Hakuna Matada (used in a very Ironic sense during work when all the shit is hitting the fan)-from the lion king

Oh, and "You got a friend in Me" from Toy Story (damn you disney for getting rid of Pixar)

The musical number in Beauty and the Beast when Gaston is being consoled by his dwarfish friend in the pub. It's got such great lines in it:

"... I use antlers in all of my decorating,
<chorus> Oh what a guy ... Gaston!!!!"

Be Prepared is up there, but my favorite Disney songs ever have to be "What's This?" and "This is Halloween" both from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

For me, probably the main theme to Beauty and the Beast. After that it's 'Under the Sea'.

I'm more into the old school. Just about everything from Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King I like, especially the non "Happy Go Lucky" type of songs.

I honestly can't remember the rest well enough to give any more than that, though "A Whole New World" from Aladdin is a nifty tune that I love.

I didn't realise that Nightmare before Christmas was a Disney film.

From Beauty and the Beast - most of them. Definitely the first one, Gaston's pub one and the one in which they fall in love.

Queen of Wands ruined Hakuna Matata for me

Also like:
He's a Tramp (Lady and the Tramp)
The Bear Necessities (The Jungle Book)
Friend in Me (Toy Story)
and
Everybody Wants to be a Cat -The Aristocats.

Whale of a Tale from "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea"

You've Got a Friend in Me from "Toy Story"

Bear Necessities from "The Jungle Book"

and the absolute best one....

The Ballad of Davey Crockett
Born on a mountain top in Tennessee,
Greenest state in the land of the free
Raised in the woods, so's he know ev'ry tree
Kilt him a b'ar when he was only three

Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier,

Fought single-handed through the Injun war
Till the Creeks was whipped and the peace was in store
While he was handling this risky chore
Made himself a legend forevermore

Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier,

Went off to Congress and served a spell
Fixing up the government and laws as well
Took over Washington, so I hear tell
And patched up the crack in the Liberty Bell

Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier

He give his word and he give his hand
His Injun friends could keep their land
The rest of his like he took the stand
That justice was due every redskinned man

Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier

When he came home, his politickin' done
The western march had just begun
So he packed up his gear and his trusty gun
And lit out grinnin' to follow the sun

Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier

He heard of Houston and Austin and so
To the Texas plain he just had to go
Their freedom was a fightin' another foe
And they needed him at the Alamo

Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier.

I also like a lot of the music from Disney's "Robin Hood". It was kind of cool having Roger Miller play Alan Adale, who narrated a lot of the movie.
By the pricking of my thumb,
Something wicked this way comes.
Open, locks,
Whoever knocks.
