Jurassic Park had the same "playing God is bad ... mmmmkay?" message that Godsend probably will. Both movies show humans manipulating genetics and then everything going to Hell afterward presumably because humans are arrogant and scientist are crazy people who want to usurp The One True God. Both movies make their respective scenarios out to be inevitable because of divine retribution or some such implied nonsense.
Well, I don't know about the book, but I didn't get that idea at all from the film. Did they even mention God in the film. It seemed to me that the overall message was not "playing God is bad," but "Man should not underestimate the adaptability and resourcefulness of life." Really, things in Jurassic Park could have worked out just fine, if not for that moron Nedry, and the fact that the "genius" scientists didn't do their homework about frog sex changes.

Godsend, on the other hand, I definitely get that feeling from it's trailer. I'm assuming the movie has something to do about the kid not having a "soul" because he's a clone, or something stupid like that. And everytime it comes up, I think the exact same thing as Innerbrat: "Oh great, more propaganda to set back genetic research." It's the same kind of hollywood shit that keeps nuclear power from being more frequently used (because everyone knows the plants will explode violently, and then the giant ants will eat us !!111!!).

Anyway, I don't get out to the movies much, but other trailers that I've scoffed at are Son of Mask (God, why? The first movie was made 10 years ago!), Garfield, Day After Tomorrow, and that "Meangirls" movie, mainly because it seems like every time I turn on the TV I'm bombarded with messages about how it's the "number one movie in America", which does nothing to help my overall lack of faith in the intelligence of the average American.
Is it a crime to try and learn the truth? Is it a sin to search for those things which you fear? My purpose in this world is knowledge, and the dissemination of it. And it is I who is to restore the fruits of my labors to the entire world. Wake up! Don’t be afraid of knowledge! Humans who loose the capacity to think become creatures whose existence has no value. Think, you humans who are split into two worlds! Unless you want the gulf between humans to expand into oblivion, YOU MUST THINK! - Schwarzwald

All of these are legitimate rants, but you are forgetting one thing: The Chronicles of Riddick, the new Vin Diesel sci-fi flick that is single-handedly attempting to drive the genre into the ground. Look at the trailer online... at your own risk!

The Son of The Mask preview makes me want to conduct a gory sacrifice of babies.

I actually liked the Garfield preview. :)

Son of Mask is what i would call a 'bad movie', and i havnt even seen it yet. It almost made me want to never have children. thats how bad it was. On another topic, i like tolet humor, and i intend to see several comedies soon. Soul Plane and White Chicks among them, but i also intend to buy Stuck On You as soon as i get a chance. Say what you will, it is tasteless, and i love it.

Actually, I thought that the Chronicles of Riddick looked cool. And the Day After Tomorrow also looked cool. Who cares if DAT isn't so scientifically accurate, it's a movie that doesn't deal with science, it deals with giant lightning bolts killing people and knocking down trees! And COR is just a pop corn movie with shit blowing up and people dying and weirdo space ships and an old woman.

The Son of Mask however....I've heard about it in Maddox, but please...tell me you people are just part of some big internet joke :(

This is why I don't go to the movies. There's too much shit there already, and more "coming soon."

"I, Robot" made me want to vomit. "Duh, I'm Will Smith. Was'up?" Ugh. I know he can act, but for crying out loud. Can't the fuckers stick to the source material? At least "Bicentennial Man" kept Asimov's spirit alive. What the hell does "I, Robot" promise to do, but become an inferior Terminator rip-off?

I saw a snippet - can you believe it, a snippet - of "Godsend" and I'm already disgusted. Fuck, hollywood really knows how to market itself.

:| Uhh, looked pretty awsome to me.

Godsend = Horrible
I Robot = Garbage (I remember a year ago when I heard Will Smith would be in it I just knew it was gonna be cheese)
Son of the Mask = Kill it!! Kill It!!

Is Chronicles of Riddick based on some other work? I saw the trailer and thought it looked okay, but I'm not a fan of Van Diesel so I have my doubts if the show will be any good.

When I saw the "White Chicks" trailer I did laugh a little but over all I'm not interested in what is going to be ghetto boyz hang with the rich movie.

COR is like a prequel to that Riddick movie with him stuck on the planet with the nocturnal purple people eaters.

I thought it was a sequel to that? Y'know, set after he escapes from the planet, surviving the shit that was down there.

Well, check out the site. I think it was a prequel, but I forget. Meh. I think COR is the cause that he becomes a wanted man or something.

I just can't wait for AvP.

I thought they had gotten back together for this movie but you appear to be correct. The IMDB just has Emmerich listed for everything.

He's an okay director but it'd be nice if he didn't make his whole career out of obviously rehashing old ideas.

Edit: It looks like Devlin and Emmerich are getting back together for their announced film Girl Next Door.

I would rather see how he became the most wanted man in the galaxy first.

Actually, the Chronicles of Riddick trailer piqued my interest and I intend to see the previous Riddick film before this comes out.

However...I saw a trailer for...you wouldn't believe it.

I died when I saw the Son of the Mask teaser the first time. Not really bad, but you get a huge "dear God, no..." feeling.

I did like what EW said about it, regarding the dancing baby: "that's not just creepy, that's last year's creepy." :)

Judge Dredd. Hell, Justice Griffin had the right idea in that movie (albeit extreme), the problem was he was surrounded by fucking morons who pulled their "playing God is bad mmmmmkay" crap. Then Rico came in and shot them all. Armad Assante needs to kill everyone in every single one of those annoying as shite movies with their bullshit anti-science.

Yeah, if you can have cloned super soldiers to patrol the streets and have them within days, why the hell not?

Because clones are evil? Pish posh. Guess identical twins should have one half incinerated then. The eeeevil gene!

The difference being, Jurassic Park's "dodgy science" was not directly related to the message. It wans't the method of cloning that caused the disaster, it was trying to tame large dangerous animals and putting too much faith in people like Nedry. Godsend appears to just plain lie about what cloning involves in order to prove it's bad.

I also don't think there was any influence on god in Jurassic park, even if the characters mentioned it, more as a metaphor (using the phase "playing God" doesn't imply a belief in God by the speaker)
Gattaca was far, far different. Things were the way they were in Gattaca because of natural consequences of genetic manipulation, not because God was angry with us. Granted, the outlook presented was somewhat pessimistic, but it's still better than, "Everything will go to hell because humans played God."
Actually, I thought JP and Gattaca were similar in that regard. The shit in JP was because of human error, while Gattaca was a social commentary.
Neither did what Godsend seems to do, which is to say there will be direct supernatural consequences of cloning, and that a clone is essentially the same person (as opposed to an identical twin)

Oh, and about Chronicles of Riddick - my reaction to the trailer was to laugh at the stupid name.

The Core trailer was terrible. The idea that the Earths core can stop spinning and be fixed by a 1000 megaton nuke is wrong on so many levels.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.
