Sim City: Particulating Splines?

Post by StarshipTitanic »

The last thing the map does before starting. What's it mean?

I dunno, in The Sims it's "reticulating splines". I think it has no meaning, just an in-joke similar to the llamas in Sc3k.

Yep. Maxis does all sorts of strange stuff like that, though SC2K had more humor.

Reticulating Splines: Constructing network based functions that are defined by divisible intervals while approximating said network and composing it of pieces of simple functions defined on subintervals and joined at their endpoints with a suitable degree of smoothness.
-- Will Wright (from http://simz.gamenation.com/)
The 'network' he refers to is the network of relationships between all the variable functions in your city, or in your Sim's life.

It is also reticulating in SC2K, not particulating.

Did you ever see the loch ness monster in SC2K or Superman?
They were really rare, but I did see them a few times.

Yah. Did you know that you can shoot down that annoying traffic helicopter?

Just click on it with the centering tool. Watch out, it'll cause a fire if disasters aren't turned off. Make sure to keep the newspapers on, as the description of what happens is great ;)

What was the description? I remember shooting down the helicopter (couldn't you get the planes too?) but didn't read the papers.

You mean like in the newspaper articles? They were more absurd than anything else. Then again, absurd can be funny.

I liked one of the tips in SC3k. From "the llama suggests", had one of the tips being "There are no cheat codes for SimCity 3000. No cheat codes. Yeah, sure." As if saying, 'of course there are cheat codes, but we can't admit to them.'

Simcity 4 seems to have an almost complete lack of humor, in comparison. Although it is kinda funny to unleash Servo and have him toss plates all over the buildings.

Indeed -- and there were cheat codes.

Yeah. SC4 is a much drier game -- but it has much more depth than the previous games.

What's Servo look like? I imagine MST3K's Servo going insane...

The best humor in Sim City 4 is from examining buildings. From useless stats such as how many monkeys that has escaped from the Disease Research Facility to peculiar named high tech indutries such as "Kane Tiberium".

Not at all. It's from Servo the Serving Robot in the Sims. Only 15,000 simoleons and he cooks, cleans, repairs, and even gives sore folks backrubs. Apparently, in SC4 he's tired of serving and wants payback.

I'm not sure how to describe his looks. The guy with the Orange avatar (Rye?) probably got it as good as possible.

I always thought they were plates. Anyway, it's the coolest disaster after the meteor--those plates can take out entire blocks as they move.
