We didn't do it when Malaysia beat us, we aren't doing it now that they building the 101 in Taipei. We aren't going to do it now. Even if the BinLaden family is behind it.
Remember, the BinLadens don't all hate the US.

The skyscraper will be nearly half a mile and about one-third taller than the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
This line from the article appears to be incorrect. IIRC the Petronas twin towers are about approximately 300 meters high. So one third taller would be 400 meters high. But that is less half of the half mile height according to the article.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

PopMechanics had an article back a few years ago about a plan to build the world's tallest building in Chicago, but apparently it fell apart after 9/11 and nobody cares enough to revive it. Just as well I suppose, the design was pretty ugly anyway.
In any case, are there any other views of the building other than a small snapshot of the base?

Don't you know that, over here lad, they like it best like this!
Hooray, pour les français! Farewell, Angleterre!
We didn't know how to tickle Mary, but we learnt how, over there!

I recall watching on Guiness world tecords TV show that the Petronas twin towers in Malaysia are the tallest buildings on Earth.
how many years ago? it doesn't hold it anymore apparently.

Get a C150 and fill it to the brim with MOABS and remote pilot it..
I suggest a fully landen B1 with two internal fuel tanks and the last bay full of Mk84's armed inflight with instantnaous fusing. A second B1 will lay down a belt of landmines around it and strike at the water and power stations.
Or we could just send a B2 to tear up the construction site at night when no ones working or will be harmed. Though personally I highly doubt this project is real, atl east not on the announced scale in this artical. Such a huge building would be noticed by alot more sources well before any ground breaking.

and let it be the British Airways Concorde filled to the brim with C-4 and flying at Mach 2.5
And watch it break up and explode as it attempts to dive down ten of thousands of feet at that speed. Lets be realistic here.

Whenever there's a practical reason to build one, I guess. As of now, pretty much every city on earth can do with several smaller buildings rather than having to go through the trouble of designing a really tall building without the elevators being too slow, wind being too much of a problem, and other considerations.

There is a shitload of 5-star hotels on Earth. It's part of the standard rating system (if there is such a thing) and even so when referring solely to the US standard - every country has a different way of determining stars. France has one to four, most others have one thru five.
