At first I used to do the whole imagine their avatar speaking, but I've stopped trying to see you for yourselves.

Chairman Kiel is quite flattered. ;)

I'll go on the record stating that I also associate people with their avatars, most of the time, at least. But not always, since for some people it works better than with others.

I usually connect people with their avatars. People I don't like generally have avatars that annoy the shit out of me for one reason or another.

i'll connect to people's avatars for the most part. it's generally easier to picture than some random image of them i might have seen once but not again. plus some people use the same avatar all the time so if i see them without it it's like almost seeing a stranger. though for someone that changes their avatars consistently, well, it's easier to just go by their screenname.

I think of everyone as their avatar.

Examples: Like Darth Wong is Yoda, but with speech lessions so he can talk right and not all backwards, SirNitram is that Black Mage figure that looks like Orko from He-Man, Evilcat's Red from FFVII and so on. Some people have insignias and whatnot for an avatar, like the green 'G' shaped thingy Gandalf has, and i literally picture the insigia talking. It sounds wierd, but it works for me.

Course, some folks are men with female avatars. So it's sorta complicated. Having a little 'voice' or chaarcter to narate the posts helps make it more fun though, especially when a fight breaks out.

I've always regarded one's avatar about as inidicative of the way they look as much as if they were posting a picture of their automobile.

If I have not seen a picture of a poster, the image I conjure of that poster is based on their style of writing, the extent and flavor of their humor, the way they think, biographical data they've shared, and portraying how they feel about things; like if I was reading a novel.

If the personality they convey on the board resembles that of someone I've known in real life, I'll assume they look similar to that person. Sometimes I have no conception of what they look like, as in the example of the originator of this thread, Straha.

Most people I imagine as being over- or under-weight nerds. For some reason I always imagine Spanky as a girl even though I know he's a guy. I think it's because of his avatars. No offense intended.

I tend to associate by avatar, although sometimes their personality is so strong that it creates it's own impression in me.

My avatar is actually fairly representative of me, although I've gotten quite a bit hairier since that picture was drawn by my friend.

Well if you picture us by our avatars then either you picture me as a humungously fat woman sitting on a guy's face or my current av which I would then be a guy with a flaming ass.

But in reality, I'm closer to Av number two since my ass truly has superpowers.

I hear a voice and invision something that more goes along with a user name than their avatar or real picture.

...I am so not asking how you got that association. Why? Because I know you too well. It doesn't require anything to make an association like that with you. >_>

In real life, intellectual/nerdy, though both of those words have broader definitions to me than to most other people. I've known some very hot nerdy-looking guys; "very hot" and "nerdy-looking" are not mutually exclusive.

But when reading the posts here I generally just connect names with avs or types of avs (for people who change it a lot, but have a similar theme to them all). 18-till confused me a lot at first because I kept mixing him up with Lord MJ since they both have the same Sisko av.
