The Dog in the Night Time
On Sunday night I called in the local Asda-Wal-Mart to buy some essentials, I was wondering along the magazines/books row and there were some cut price books on sale.
I saw one my friend had recently read, or I should say was still reading, but he said he was enjoying it and reccomended it to me- for £3.63, I couldn't not buy it.
The book is called 'The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Night Time' and is about a 15 year old boy with Asperger's Syndrome, it is written in the first person, from his perspective, by an Author called Mark Haddon- and it is truly fascinating, I couldn't put it down, finished it now- wonderful book.
He really throws you into it, you get real perspective of life without being able to filter out the tonne of input, on a daily basis that many of us so easily dismiss and take for granted, he does it with such warmth and occasional comedy you can't help but want to read on.
I just wanted to reccomend it anyway, because it's a superb insight into Asperger's Syndrome and Autism in general- which I previously had no knowledge or experience of. It's also a lovely story, I'd like to know if anyone else has read it and what they thought?
Some good and detailed synopsis/reviews here, if you wish: I Like Dressing Links

Never read it, but I'll have to check it out.

Stewie: "How do you know about the machine?"

"I'm only 56? Damn, I'll have to get a fake ID to rent ultra-porn".
-Professor Farnsworth, "Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles"

Wow, you started reading it at the same time as me!
This is one of the books which i thought would be strange, but this was very very good.
The Way the asperges is portrayed is quite amazing, and the hatred of Yellow and Brown things was very much similer to the cases i recently saw at a Special needs School.
I give this book a 8/10

and also, this book IS NOT for Children, the amount of abuse in this book was incredible, from the parents perspective, it would be very interesting also

Yeah, it is a real 'graphic' and real presentation of any childs upgringing really, in that the author hasnt shyed away from the real use of bad language, how parents get angry with their children, and how the 'illness' affects the parents etc.
Antitrek, glad you also enjoyed it, I don't usually read normal 'fiction' but this is a little different, I am certainly glad that I bought it.
Suprised to see that it isn't as widely read as I thought it would be, considering it won a prestigious writing prize, etc etc. Still, again, I do recommend to everyone that you buy it, if you like to read, I doubt you'd regret it.
Something to note, antitrek, there is actually a childrens edition of this book, filtered of course, which is a nice idea.

My mum works in the Biggest libary in the area, and as a manager she gets to order in all the books, she recently looked at how many time it had been rented out, i think i was the third in about 7 months.
The WhiteBread is not really a award that is recognized, as its voted by the public, and not a panel of "experts"![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)
