Half Life 2
Currently watching HL2 footage, this is amazing, valve has come through with their promise, the game LOOKS amazing, and from footage plays amazing.
Dropping a huge steel container using normal physics on 4 baddies and watching it hit a fuel tank and explode is amazing.

What really caught my interest is the fact that they said HL1 will be released in the Source Engine. Source is the HL2 engine.

Just like how they ported Counterstrike into the Source Engine, they're probably saying they could do the same with the original HL1 campaign.Alyeska wrote:What really caught my interest is the fact that they said HL1 will be released in the Source Engine. Source is the HL2 engine.
Maybe it could become a re-release of some kind.

Caught mine, too. Unless they screw it up somehow, even if HL2 sucks, we still win because we get the original with a brand new engine.Alyeska wrote:What really caught my interest is the fact that they said HL1 will be released in the Source Engine. Source is the HL2 engine.

If porting mods over to HL2 is "easy" or "not like making the whole damn thing over again" that would be great; imagine NS, DoD, S&I, TS, ToD, AHL, BG, or even WW running on Source; the prospect of vehicles excites me the most; though I don't think that jeep can be destroyed, I'm sure you can do virtually anything with source. (2 points if you can name all the acroynms)

680 megabyte, 30 minute long video. Link provided by PuggerCheese @ SB.com
I for one am pretty interested in that scene with Eli (that black scientist). He had one of those alien slaves working with him.
He handed this power core looking thing to the alien, who carries it off, inserts it into something, then seems to charge it with its own energy.
What do you think's going on? Are the humans recruiting those Xen aliens to help them? (IIRC, the alien slave is what happens when a headcrab finishes its metamorphosis after infecting a human host, I think).
Note: That video is the full E3 demo. In-game footage aplenty.
EDIT: Forget about what I said about the headcrabs morphing into the slaves thing. Wrong on that one.

By the gods, I almost wet my pants watching that.
I've garnered a few things from it:
1) Even an encounter with a 'normal' enemy like the Zombies is going to be fucking creepy... did you hear those fuckers when they were burning?
2) Striders. Run away from them. For god's sake, don't get their attention by shooting rockets at them.
3) Speaking of rockets, guys flying through the air a few hundred feet after getting blasted by one: Absolutely priceless.
4) Methinks that the Alien-slaves are more docile in nature, and were enslaved (hence the 'slave') by Nililith and his minions. Once the big cheese was dead, they were freed from control, and either wanted to atone for past sins, wanted to form a partnership with humans because of they both being sentient races, etc, OR... they're working together to survive against... something else.
5) The Gravity Gun can not only pick up objects, but also violently push them with a bolt of energy.
6) All the CS models were left-handed.

I suspect the Zen aliens are actually the good guys in some form, if you listen to the weird alien voice before as the Nihilanth level starts, you'll hear it say something about someone (presumably the g-man) will betray you.
It's going to be an interesting one, I'm sure <downloads video>. I'll say any interpretations I have on this after it's downloaded.

680 megs!! Jesus Christ, that's as big as the leaked and reconstructed HL2 beta!Shinova wrote:680 megabyte, 30 minute long video. Link provided by PuggerCheese @ SB.com

Downloading the video now, though for that size I expect the freaking game.
I hear the G-Man will likely shed light on just what exactly happened on Zen after everyone's favourite theorectical physicist with an attitude was given an ultimatum. I'm curious as to what City 17 etc. was created for and whether some interuniversal war is going on (think Invasion Earth style plot with the Zen side no longer our enemy but some other fucking badass species instead).

Having just watched the video... wow.
-The physics is superb. I can't faught the stuff they have there, but then we all know HL was a great engine, this sequel only re-establishes that reputation.
-Weapons are great. The usual SMGs, pistols and shotguns along with the great laser guided RPG, the new and highly useful gravity gun and, of course, the crowbar of justice!
-Atmosphere. The plot looks twisty, the city and general environment is slick and seems new and reminds me of the original Black Mesa area. The aliens look good and eerie, especially as noted the burning of the head crab zombies. Our friendly G-Man is back and it seems a new species of alien is working against us whilst Zen is assimilated to work with us. Quite what City 17 in Europe is for, I don't know. Maybe it's one big lab...
-Striders. Fuck a duck. How do you kill those things?! Someone obviously wanted something to seriously rain on your parade (and your allies as they get torn asunder). I love the obvious H.G. Wells homage as the machines fling cars at people, pick people up and rip them apart or, better yet, use a heat-ray! ULLAH!
-Vehicles. This I can see a lot of fun in. The buggy and the prop. boat chase in the canal with the gunship and explosions galore was deeply involving.

Just a little bit of info from Gamespy:
"When we checked out the new Half-Life 2 demos earlier this week at E3, we were treated to our first glimpse of what Valve is doing for multiplayer: porting mods like Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat to the new Source engine powering Half-Life 2. During that presentation, Gabe Newell mentioned that "all original Half-Life content" was being ported to the new engine, but it wasn't entirely clear what other content that might include outside the multiplayer mods, or how or when it might be released."
To review: Half Life, CS, DoD have all been ported to Source! You'll find me playing DoD right after I finish both single player campaigns.
