i think i see a Two Finned Nebulon variant ( the Neb-C i think it was) in the far left of the background ships.

I think the Frigate was meant to be a Mon Calamari ship personally. The look for the forward sections is very similar to the lines of the larger cruisers. However I can live with it as a KDY product.

To me it looks like they designed it one compartment at a time, then struck those together, rather then getting a basic shaped down and then designing everything it fit within the space.

It was built as a counter to Rebel fighters, so it was likely a rush job, and likely one by whoever wasn't assigned to anything more important like the Executor project. Basically a grade D design by a grade F team, but a serviceable one.
