Smoking Kills, Mmkay?

Smoking soldiers cause ammo dump to go up.

Dear oh dear. I doubt cigarette breaks will be tolerated now.

What gets me are the folks who sue the cigarrette companies after years of ignoring the words right on the box that the things will kill you.

C'mon, this is funny! I'd expect to see this in an episode of the Simpsons or something...

Those warnings are pretty new though, aren't they? People who have been smoking for 40 years (since the days when tobacco companies denied the smoking/cancer link) might have a case for negligent misrepresentation.

The words "Cigarrette smoking is dangerous to your health." have been on the boxes for at least 25 years, so those who started puffing since the warnings came into play have no valid excuse. Those who started before the warnings do. Certainly, anyone who gets cancer from second-hand smoke has a resounding case.

A series of blasts hurled debris as far as 25 miles after fire broke out last Thursday at a warehouse complex where 92,000 tons of artillery ammunition was stored
what kind of braindead assclown lights a cigarette in a warehouse filled with 92,000 TONS OF EXPLOSIVES! Even fucking medeval peasants understood the concept of 'fire make gunpowder go boom'.

I can just imagine what was going through their heads..

"Hey Yuri, I have a great idea. Need a light?"

"But Yevlinov, we are surrounded by 92000 tons of high explosives, are you sure that is safe?"

"Of course, what is the worst thing tht can happen? It isnt like a cigarette will cause a series of explosions that destroys buildings in a two mile radius"

"But the warning sign says that could happen"

"DOnt be such a panzy Yuri, those warnings are just there so the government has its ass covered. They dont mean anything"

"Alright Yevlinov hand me your lighter"

If it wasn't for the fact that five people died, this would be funny.

Man, the sad thing is, there was this hot exchange-student type from the Ukraine in my English class this past semester...

And this is in Kiev? I think that's where she was from, but not 100% sure...

Damn, don't know if she went back or not, but that would suck if her family got hurt, they lost some property or something. :(

ya know. . .it should be common sense not to have open flames around anything flammable or highly explosive. haven't gas stations and the like had warnings such as that since they've existed? 'no open flames permitted within 20 feet' or some such?

Recently (at least here in Canada) there has been harsher language in cigarette warning labels, like "Smoking can kill you".

Exactly. Have you never seen people smoking at gas stations? Most of the time they don't even understand what you are trying to tell them.

Once in Niagra Falls a buddy of mine and I were very drunk and ran out of cigarettes. And because we'd both gotten wiped out in the casino, we had to buy Canadian cigarettes instead of American. The box we got had a picture of a pregnant woman on the box. I had to spend the rest of the damn night reassuring him he wouldn't get pregnant from smoking Canadian cigarettes.

Thank you Canada. Thanks a lot.

Well this certainly gives "lighting up" a whole new meaning.

But man can you imagine what footage of the explosion from a chopper would have looked like?

92 kilotons going off would make only suicidal chopper pilots go anywhere near it.

I was thinking of something a bit stronger than that, along the lines of, "Don't smoke, you fucking morons!"

In any place with explosives nearby, the warning should include something about how "WE WILL EXECUTE THE TREACHEROUS GOATFUCKER WHO DOES ANYTHING WITH A FLAME AROUND HERE!!!!" It's a bit stronger than most people are used to, but explosions are much stronger than most people are used to, and I'd say that should take precedence.
