What brought you to SD.net? And what do you think of SD.net?

A Cool Thread.

I think out of all the forums I am and have been a member of, (and that's alot) SD.net is by far the best- like has been said in the thread, filled with a whole multitude of fantastic people and opinion, more or less completely uncensored (how can I not love that)- and well... sci fi. It has everything, it's superb.

Being here has vastly lowered my opinion of my favourite show in more or less everyway, which makes me laugh alot, oh Star Trek. I also have the privelidge of participating in some of the most fascinating threads I've ever encountered on the internet, it's all good.

I have known of the existance of this site for over a year I guess, (first saw it when I followed a link in Darth Wong's sig @ phpBB.com ) I had visited a few times but never got around to joining. A few months back, I was reading some trek vs wars discussion and wanted to say something- and then I had to wait 5 days for my account to be approved and the argument was gone, lol. Glad I came, I look forwards to staying and hopefully getting to know peeps a bit better

I was bored one day and typed something like "creationist hate mail" into Google, and Mike's hate mail page came up. I read it, was greatly entertained, then read through the rest of the creationism pages, enjoyed that, then went on to the Star Wars vs. Star Trek pages (something that I had never even thought of before but enjoyed reading), then found this forum, read a few things, and joined.

And that's my story. Of the many forums I had been on before, this one is by far the coolest.

I might have already posted, but I know how I found SDNet now, I remember:

I was searching through Star Wars models, and I ended up finding a STvsSW webring, riddled with references to some "Mike Wong" character. Seriously, 20+ sites, all mentioning Mike in some way, usually bashing him, for no good reason that I could see. I eventually found a link to SD.net, surfed around for a few days. I read Conquest, and most of the rest of the site, but didn't click the "discussion forums" link for awhile. I didn't even understand the idea behind one. Eventually, I clicked it (accidently, I think), read Starcrossed, and made my first post (somewhere around page 50 of the Starcrossed comments section). And the rest, as they say, is history.

I originally came to this site looking for various scifi ideas to use for creating my own scifi universe. I found the information and debates on scifi, creationism and everything else very interesting, and I loved the high standards each debate maintained (I've never seen a place be so absolutely brutual on idiocy - and idiocy deserves it).

While I have a low post count, I read a fair amount of the topics with great interest (no use repeating what's already been said, or worse, showing yourself to be an idiot). You never know what you'll learn next on SD.Net.

Back when I thought the United States should never have abandoned the Articles of Confederation or entered WWII, I frequented a number of extreme libertarian sites, one of them anti-state.com. I lurked in their forum and at one point got pointed here to Mike's wonderful AoTC commentary by a thread on AoTC. After that I started checking out the site for a few months, and registered about a month and a half after the forums were born.

I found the SvC site first, then slowly started looking about the site, and eventually found my way onto the forum. Had a short stint of trolling, but quickly got over that and started doing this sort of thing better.

I honestly cannot remember what brought me here but I am damn glad I ended up here. This place is beyond great. This is where I get my news from, my "fill of sci-fi, science, and mockery of stupid people." I would not trade this for anything else in the world. You guys are my second family. (especially GALE)

A few years ago during a discussion on the Extropians mailing list involving The Federation and Communism someone posted a link to Mike's page. I bookmarked it, and later came back and read more. Then I decided to look in the forums, and when I found an interesting thread I signed up.

Despite the fact that I've no particular interest in either Star Wars or Star Trek, and that I've come to consider vs debates slightly perverted I still think that this site has a lot to offer in terms of interesting discussions and in allowing me to express my latent pedantism.

I was checking out B5 technology on the internet and went to Brandon Bray's website. I saw Stardestroyer.net on his links page and decided to visit. I was surprised at the rich amount of information on Star Wars and Star Trek. I got hooked and joined the message board several months later.

I've been reading the main site since spring of '99 - my freshman year of college. I didn't have internet access summer of '02 but noticed the forums when I got back in the fall. I intentionally did not join until I was finished with college and had a job because I knew (correctly) that I'd be spending a lot of time reading all the fun and intellectually stimulating stuff.

I found a link to Stardestroyer.net in a magazine back in 2001. A year later I came back to site and found forums were operational and so I registered. I think Stardestroyer.net is a great site for intellectual and science fiction discussion.
