2. Emma- see above.
3. Madison- shoot the idiot who names his daughter "Madison." Some names should reserved for streets only.
4. Hannah- Biblical name. Doesn't impress me either way.
5. Hailey- "Open hailey frequencies." Another name is really hate. Don't name your daughter this atrocity.
6. Sarah- I can't count the number of flight attendants I've met named Sarah.
7. Kaitlyn- More shit.
8. Isabella- Huh?
9. Olivia- Olivia Newton John. Olive Oil... Not a great track record here.
10. Abigail- Abi-normal. More crap.
Boys' names
1. Jacob- typical.
2. Aidan- Aidan? AIDAN? Where the fuck did this come from? Is this one of those stupid "pop culture" names? ...no, really, AIDAN?
3. Ethan- Ehan Hawk. Can't think of any others.
4. Matthew- Everyone knows a Matthew.
5. Nicholas- See above.
6. Joshua- " "
7. Ryan- same.
8. Michael- more of the same.
9. Zachary- Don't care for this name, but it's not Aidan.
10. Tyler.
Well, at least we're not getting "Colby" and all these other pop culture bullshit names, but "Aidan" is pretty bad. What do you think? Know any Aidans? What names do you like?

It's Irish, I believe. Could be a lot of Irish people trying to get back to their "roots", I dunno.2. Aidan- Aidan? AIDAN? Where the fuck did this come from? Is this one of those stupid "pop culture" names? ...no, really, AIDAN?
That said, anyone who names their daughter Beth or Bertha is essentially condemning them to a life of obesity. Same thing goes for a girl named Trixie, only she'll be a stripper (not an obese one, though).

Aidan Quinn? He's pretty old, maybe it's just a revival.Superman wrote:So true, so true...That said, anyone who names their daughter Beth or Bertha is essentially condemning them to a life of obesity.
Well, I thought Aidan was another pop culture type of name. Maybe I've just never heard it.
Good to see Michael is still in the top 10, good strong name.

Too many trendy names in that list. I chose to name my boys Matthew and David because traditional names tend to evoke a sense of solidity, which is particularly important for men.

Hmmm, my brother has been called Aidan for 14 years and a photographer I know has been called Aidan for 43 years so I highly doubt it's a new pop culture name, considering in a close circle of family and friends I know two of them, Superman.
The rest are teh suck, my mother had a baby last week and she called him Connor. That's going to take some time to get used too. My other siblings are called Louis, Elizabeth and Sarah- which are relativly normal, IMO. Meh.

Well, that depends. Is she a "Beth" or a "Bertha?" Because "Beths" can occasionally avoid the phenomon, but "Berthas" are doomed.Odd, my future sister-in-law seems thin. Hmm!

Don't you know that, over here lad, they like it best like this!

It is a contraction of the name yes, but people reckon my name is short for jonathan when my Birth certificate states differently, so I think contracted names can be treated as names in there own right.Gandalf wrote:Isn't Beth short for Elizabeth?
Man I talk shit, of course they are.. I know what point you were making, never mind me I'm a schmuck. Still hate it when people 'tell me my name is short for Jonathan'- FUCK YOU TOO BITCHES.

A-Fucking-Men. As many of you know, goddamned redy names make me want to cram pigshit into my tearducts. Traditional names are where it's at. They have stood the test of time. I guaran-fucking-tee you in 300 years, Nobody is going to think "Condoleeza" or "Shaquandria" is a good name. That IS a bit off topic, but in the same spirit of this thread. Can I get a hell yeah?Darth Wong wrote:Too many trendy names in that list. I think Asian immigrants are the only ones giving their kids conventional, American names these days. The Onion a funny bit on this fact a few years ago.

What's wrong with the name Isabella? I kinda like it. In fact, I hold the opinion that the female part of the human species has gotten almostall the good names... (though also some really dreadful ones) but it's probably just me.Superman wrote: 8. Isabella- Huh?
The best male names I can think of are Alexander and Julius. Perhaps because they're the names of great conquerors.
I'm not sure whether I'm fit for being a parent, but this was my two cents about what I consider viable options, were I ever to name someone.

Hmmm, John's not on the list anymore? Maybe in twenty years, when someone yells "John!" in a crowded place, seventy people won't turn around and look all confused.

Nope, that dubious honor can go to the Michaels I guess. Everywhere I go, there is at least one other Michael it seems.Alferd Packer wrote:Hmmm, John's not on the list anymore? And everyone wants to shorten it to Mike. Maybe I'll just go around insisting on either my last name, or to say the whole thing. So nobody else seems to do that, I actually stand a chance at recoqnizing people calling for me and not someone else that way.
Of course, everyone who knows me goes by my last name anyway, for some reason. Ever since 6th grade at least. Not sure why...and how it carried over to a completely different school (when I went up to HS) where I knew not one person from my middle school. *shrugs*

Ester, as in the bond?Superman wrote:Speaking of stupid names, I remember some people at dad's church who had twin girls. They named one of them "Ester" (sp) and all I could think of is that she must have been the youngest girl on the planet with that name.
I'm a Nick and used to always hate that, but now I don't care. I don't know what I'd name my kids if I have any, but I wouldn't go for just plain usual names that are too common, I'd like some imagination to give some individuality.
But I wouldn't fucking call anyone Tigerlily or Rusty or something stupid like that.
