Your submarine probably offends someone. Personally, there's a difference between appreciating the technology in a tank or aircraft, and liking Nazis and Hitler. The Nazis used these items, but the also used other things.. like volkswagens and toothbrushes, are we supposed to *shun* these things as well? In life you will offend people, you just have to live with that.

I remember when someone was flying a heinkel he111 through Canada for some airshow. Some jewish groups were complaining about the swatztika on it. Its strange, we're supposed to never forget, but we're supposed to hide the fact that this was once a Nazi plane? If someone says "whats that?" its the perfect time to explain what it is and what happened.

I simply have it there because I like old submarines but if you think it makes me look like some moron who worships the III Reich (which I am not) I will remove it.

Came from a Count who donated the very first aircraft to the new Finnish
Air Force after WWI, his family logo was a blue hakkenkreuz, and Finland
decided to use that for their national logo on their aircraft because of that.

They changed it to a blue/white roundel after WWII for obvious reasons...

That's right. The Holy Roman Empire which, by the way, was originally ruled by Charlemagne, the King of the Franks in what is now France. That was the 1st. The 2nd was the German Empire, which was actually Prussia after it took over the other Germanic states following Napoleon's defeat.

This thread is about people who admire the Nazis, not just people who study their history.

Personally, I think that Nazi-admirers are just people who envy their power and ruthlessness. In my experience, they tend to be wimps who use a "benign" association with Nazism (its power and ruthlessness but not its anti-semitism) as a way of making themselves more intimidating by association. Just look at Shep's picture in the "what do you look like" thread; he's a scrawny wimp! He's a classic example.

That would depend on the state really, I wouldn't mind living under a sort of 4th Empire like goverment with a benevolent ruler that has more authority whilst the goverment has all the other freedoms of a fully democratic society.

Again I guess I am sort of romantic(and possibly not as realistic as I should be) on that issue too, and not as fanatic WRT democracy either, though I recognize it's pro's and con's of each goverment form, I'd like to try and incorporate both of them in a new and better way of goverment really.

The latter. Hardware worship is entirely different from people who admire the Nazis themselves, which is what Steve was talking about. The Japanese conquered and ravaged the home of my ancestors; doesn't mean I don't think the Yamato was cool.

Anyone who has played wargames or who have actually studied the numbers of WWII will be greatly impressed with what the german warmachine accomplished in such a short time.
Anyone who has studied history will be greatly affronted by the stupidity and bestiality of the nazis.

The problem is, today as we are chatting away more than 10 countries around the world have systems which resemble fascism or nazism but still we are arguing with each other about the one we actually did defeat.

Hush. The Iowa is cooler, especially as it could carry a much greater nuclear warload than any B-29

But neither compare to even the B-36, much less smooth craft like the B-58 or XB-70.
