Why?! Why do so many morons worship the Third Reich?
Moderator: Alyrium Denryle
Your submarine probably offends someone. Personally, there's a difference between appreciating the technology in a tank or aircraft, and liking Nazis and Hitler. The Nazis used these items, but the also used other things.. like volkswagens and toothbrushes, are we supposed to *shun* these things as well? In life you will offend people, you just have to live with that.
I remember when someone was flying a heinkel he111 through Canada for some airshow. Some jewish groups were complaining about the swatztika on it. Its strange, we're supposed to never forget, but we're supposed to hide the fact that this was once a Nazi plane? If someone says "whats that?" its the perfect time to explain what it is and what happened.

It's cool, but really, the Typ VII was a death trap by late 1943.....Cpt_Frank wrote: Btw a question how do you guys feel about the type vii boat in my sig?
Do you find it offensive ie does it make me look like a neo-nazi?
I simply have it there because I like old submarines but if you think it makes me look like some moron who worships the III Reich (which I am not) I will remove it.
Typ XXI Elektroboot is even cooler, but yea, the Typ VII has a sort
of "look" that is appealing. Sort of a "bulldog" look, even though
I'm more partial to US WWII submarines...

They changed it to a blue/white roundel after WWII for obvious reasons...

Oberon, are forgetting the main reason why we study history?

Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."
In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!
If all you want to do is have some harmless, mindless fun, go H3RE INST3ADZ0RZ!!

That's right. The Holy Roman Empire which, by the way, was originally ruled by Charlemagne, the King of the Franks in what is now France. That was the 1st. The 2nd was the German Empire, which was actually Prussia after it took over the other Germanic states following Napoleon's defeat.

Yep that's the way it should be but humans are just bound to repeat history, most time out of sheer stupidity.Ted wrote:Oberon, are forgetting the main reason why we study history?

This thread is about people who admire the Nazis, not just people who study their history.
Personally, I think that Nazi-admirers are just people who envy their power and ruthlessness. In my experience, they tend to be wimps who use a "benign" association with Nazism (its power and ruthlessness but not its anti-semitism) as a way of making themselves more intimidating by association. Just look at Shep's picture in the "what do you look like" thread; he's a scrawny wimp! He's a classic example.

1. damn the nazi f**kers for making the coolest helmet design in the world politically incorrect, DIE!!!
2. Thank you USA for trying, I appreciate the effort, I really do, but I've seen it, lacks the feeling of the old helmets.
3. Bring back Imperial Germany from WW1 instead, they where nice people and still had the cool helmets and we finns got materiel from them, including the cool helmets, we even got a prince when our country was formed But we opted for a president instead :p
Though it would have been cool to have a royal house like the swedes do.

NO! Are you insane? Do you think I wanna live in an Empire or dictatory state of any other kind? And do you know who theoretically would be the new Kaiser? Prinz Ernst August von Hanover! That guy is a complete idiot, regularly beats up reporters and photographers, that's not the kind of ruler I'd like to have. His Divine Shadow wrote:3. That would depend on the state really, I wouldn't mind living under a sort of 4th Empire like goverment with a benevolent ruler that has more authority whilst the goverment has all the other freedoms of a fully democratic society.Cpt_Frank wrote:NO! Again I guess I am sort of romantic(and possibly not as realistic as I should be) on that issue too, and not as fanatic WRT democracy either, though I recognize it's pro's and con's of each goverment form, I'd like to try and incorporate both of them in a new and better way of goverment really.
Technically, one could vote the emperor away under my proposed system if he was a bad ruler or violated civil/human rights. And do you know who theoretically would be the new Kaiser? Prinz Ernst August von Hanover! That guy is a complete idiot, regularly beats up reporters and photographers, that's not the kind of ruler I'd like to have.

The latter. Hardware worship is entirely different from people who admire the Nazis themselves, which is what Steve was talking about. The Japanese conquered and ravaged the home of my ancestors; doesn't mean I don't think the Yamato was cool.Cpt_Frank wrote:Oh and while we're at summoning Wong what do you think about the pic in my sig? A point:
Anyone who has played wargames or who have actually studied the numbers of WWII will be greatly impressed with what the german warmachine accomplished in such a short time.
Anyone who has studied history will be greatly affronted by the stupidity and bestiality of the nazis.
The problem is, today as we are chatting away more than 10 countries around the world have systems which resemble fascism or nazism but still we are arguing with each other about the one we actually did defeat.

But neither compare to even the B-36, much less smooth craft like the B-58 or XB-70.
