Whatever happens, I believe that the Labour government will win the next election, it's always been a two horse race and the Conservatives haven't got a chance of getting back in with that vampiric bastard at the helm. One thing I think is for certain though, is that Tony Blair will not be the leader of the Labour party by the time the next election is won, so who will be?

Alot of people assume that Gordon Brown will step into the big boots but it seems internal movements are trying to place current Secratary of State, John Reid in the position. He's a catholic and former member of the communist party.

Brown has been a Labour man all his life, is rather less Pro-Euro than Blair, is hardly what anyone would call a 'religious man' and IMO, would probably be the better choice.

Not really , but from your description of Brown he seems the choice candidate. Of course knowing very little about British politics I feel I am not qualified to post on such matters, however are you sure Blair is finished? Whatever his ultimate fate, one thing which I think all can agree on: the job has aged him.

Blair will go onto beat Thatcher’s record of 11 years after which Brown will probably take over.

I'm personally not convinced that Blair is in that much danger yet. If he does step down however, I see Brown taking over without too much fuss.

Despite all the cries I hear of "we're bored with Blair", and "we'll teach him at the next election", I don't see him losing. Who else are people going to vote for? Howard and the Tories? The joke that is the Lib Dems? The BNP?

When does Britain hold its elections? Before November? Because if Blair gets booted before then, Bush loses his biggest and really only significant international supporter.

Anytime before June 2006 , it depends upon when Blair chooses to call it but the most likely date (at the moment) is 5/5 next year.

But party politics could see his removal at any time. It's not that likely, not if labour have any sense, but it's possible.

THis is one of the things I despise about the parlimentary system that
the anglo sphere uses.....essentially, the party in power can call elections
any damn time it pleases, not on a set schedule, allowing them to pick the
spot for when they'll have the most support to have an election.

Given the amount of dishonesty politicians get up to in order to gain support calling an election at an opportune time hardly rates and is of only limited use anyway.

I've no doubt labour will remain in government- and Blair will be the leader until the next election... but I can't see him beating Maggie's 11 years... if he does, god help us
