[Proposal] 'Stick-pin' map image of where everyone lives.

Post by Alan Bolte »

I personally would find it very interesting to know where everyone on the board is from. As such, I propose we take a fairly high-res map of the world and put nice little dots over where everyone lives, and place in the main board directory which Darth Wong has kindly made open to us. Seing as we'll have more than one person in some cities, we'll probably want to color code the dots for the number of people they represent, but I can't foresee the map getting any more complicated than that. Since there are plenty of people who don't want to tell anyone their actual location, the ideal method, I suppose, would either involve any sort of website someone might know of which has online software for this sort of thing (you can find nearly anything on the internet, it seems like), or some other sort of anonymous method for collecting the data. Barring that, we could elect some trusted individual for everyone to PM or e-mail. I could do it, but I'm nobody so I'm not sure I'd be the best person for the job. Also, I'd be against putting people's names on the map, it would get too cluttered.

What do you think?

I'd find it interesting. I dunno how easy it'd be to really do, but I've seen it on other boards, so... *shrugs*

Sounds interesting. We can finally see who takes the top of the country or city population of the board. :)~Jason

In other words, make a map that DarkStar can print out and stick in his secret command bunker so he can designate targets for the photon torpedo bombardmend he has planned?

Bah, that map is a pain in the butt. I'd have more chance posting into the Atlantic Ocean than trying to put where I am.~Jason

How do I get my own map? I'd like to do this on another board I frequent.
