Somebody at Heavengames linked the Creationism section of SDnet in some debate I was taking part in, which led me to gradually read the whole site (this was way before the forum was born) and when the bbs went up, I registered.

Edit: Oh yes, I voted the second option, because there is one other forum (or more properly the ghost of what it was in its prime) that I like just as much as SDnet, the old AoW forums (on ezBoard, not the Heavengames one)

The article began with a blurb from the old homepage. It went like this "An imerial taskforce encounters an unknown starship from another galaxy. After that they described the site in detail and explained why it is so good. That was before the forums so I doubt the writter of the article is a member.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

hemlock showed me the sw links, and my response was:

this guy needs a hobby.

later on I joined the forums, and posted now and again.

About 3 years back the question of SW v ST creeped into my mind again and I ended up searching around for a bit. I just happened upon this site and became a frequent reader of it. I had also discovered the SB.com forums at around the same time that I discovered SD.net and posted there for a bit. (I only lurk there now though)

Anyways I joined up here as soon as I saw Mike announce the forums had been created. I may still be under 1000 posts (Im almost there! :) ) but this is my favorite forum on the net actually.

i joined because of the main site. I liked Wong's arguments and scientific method of looking at things. Originaly I thought this forum would be mostly sci fi/science kind of stuff, which was kinda meh. This off topic forum however showed it was a place you could speak out, and be yourself, and enjoy the company of intelligent others.

Compared to the other forums, this is the only Scifi-ish one I go to (even though I hardly partake in sci fi and versus discussions these days) and is the only forum I'v really come to love for the discussions sake. of the 3 forums Im a regular poster of

1 I post at because Elli posts alot there and it's kinda like hanging out with her

2 is an aviation/flightsim forum and I post about once a month, and read the rest of the time. It's a hobby forum really

Oh, and once I was IMing my ex, and asking him what he was doing.
He said he was debating with Christians, and had I seen stardestroyer.net.

I didn't relaise that he wasn't on the forum.
By then it was too late.
Uh, yeah, I'm kinda similar here. Alyrium signed up, got banned for being gay, and I kinda complained. Next thing I know I got recruited here :P

Hotfoot is an old friend of mine who showed me the main page on a rainy spring day back in my high school years. Suffice to say, I was tickled blue by the idea of a website which took the stuff of middle-school cafeteria arguments and turned it into a comprehensive, well-thought out scientific debate.

I browsed the forums for awhile, decided I liked the community, and signed up. Since then, I've become intensely addicted to the STGODing subcommunity. When you start having dreams in whcih you plot your next move, you know you are too far in :)

Oh, where to begin. I started out as an ASVSer some number of years ago now...wow I've known some of you guys for quite some time...anyway...

I've come to know many of the ASVSers well, some I'd even call friend. But anyhoo, I'd known of Stardestroyer.net long before the forums, around that time I was also making the odd post to spacebattles, but would never stay for long. Although spacebattles covered a wider variety of topics, (officially at least, anyway) to me ASVS just had a spark to it that SB just seemed to lack. Read: Really fucking boring. Then Mike opened the SD.n forums. Naturally a handfull of ASVSers jumped right in, I lurked a little at first but didn't stay long. At first I thought it was going to be an SB mk2 judging by the crowd it was pulling, so I stayed off for a few months or so. After a little while I checked back after following up something posted to ASVS and I litterally said to myself: "Hey, they actually talk about interesting shit here every now and then" and that as they say, is that.
