Perhaps it's the 'hole-to-pole' ratio. In a three-some (I'm assuming 2 females to one male), you have at least 5 'holes' that need servicing. Now, unless you're using mechanical aid, there's only one 'pole' to service, and if it's a typical guy, that pole's going to be single-use at best. Thus, it's weird because each individual hole's chance of getting off is slightly less than what it would be for single male/female sex.

Thus, to make three-ways less weird, throw in some more toys for crying out loud!

And if you do it right they can be making out and providing pleasure to each other. Plus, you've failed to take into accoutn MMF threesomes in which the pole to hole ratio decreases thus ensuring plenty of poles for all a ladies holes.
