On NPR this morning, they were reading excerpts from letters written to Eisenhower protesting Brown v. Board of Education. In all of them, you can substitute "gay" for "black" and they'd sound exactly the same. Very telling.

Eh, no, that wasn't what I meant unless you're being sarcastic.

People nowdays know well enough to treat minorities with equal respect and all. But they don't put homosexuality in the same "minorities" category, rather they treat it as an abnormality, so they don't give it the same equal respect and consideration it should receive.

I am not very well versed in US law, but wouldn't this be the first amendment to take rights away from people?

He's running for president. Regardless of what he thinks, he's got to act this way to have any chance of getting any of the all-important bigot vote. Disgusting, but that's presidential politics.

Personally, I'm eagerly awaiting the start of the Massachusetts marriages, and the subsequent hue and cry. It'll be fun; it'll be exciting; it'll be a chance to say "ha ha" in your best Nelson voice; it'll be much harder for gay marriage opponents to stop since it was approved by a state supreme court, not just a governor or something.

Face it: this board is a majority liberal cross-section; most Americans fall into the conservative camp when it comes to homosexuality. Bush is pandering to a demographic that is perhaps the largest one with which he will ever engage.
