Gandhi reconsidering PM position

Which begs the question why she ran for President if she isn't sure she wants the job? Crazy. More related crazy, the Indian stock exchange fell a staggering 17% on news of her victory. Well, that's what happens when you don't look out for the poorer caste of people; you get kicked out of office [for those who don't know, Indian society is heavily prejudiced on class [caste]. The PM who just got shafted, though he did a good job for India on a macro level, basically did jack shit for people living in rural areas; the "poorer" castes].

Um, BS, she lead her party to a majority victory -- that does not neccessarily mean that she wanted in as PM.

So why was she leading her party in an election if she had no desire for the PM position? Does that make sense to you?

maybe she's just a flake. Also, the crash of the stock market after her victory clearly showed that the educated, prosperous people of India's business sector havce absolutely no confidence in her whatsoever. Maybe she took that personally.... who knows.

Gandhi Won't Take The Job

Post by Aaron »

CBC
CBC wrote:NEW DELHI - Sonia Gandhi has decided she will not become the next prime minister of India.

"The post has not been my prime aim," Gandhi told stunned supporters on Tuesday.

"I was always certain that if ever I found myself in the position I am in today, I would follow my inner voice. I humbly decline the post," she said.

Gandhi's Congress party won an upset election victory last Thursday, defeating the governing Bharatiya Janata party and causing Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to resign.

Congress didn't win a majority, but secured the conditional support of two communist parties to form a coalition government.

Earlier Tuesday, Gandhi left a meeting with Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam without being named prime minister.

Traditionally in India, when the leader of the party with the most electoral votes is invited to the presidential palace, he or she emerges with the title of prime minister.
The 57-year-old Gandhi has asked supporters to accept her decision. She said she would not reconsider.

Earlier in the day hundreds of supporters waved the Congress party flag and pleaded with Gandhi to stay. One man stood on top of a jeep and put a loaded gun to his head. He threated to kill himself if she did not become prime minister.

Somnath Chatterjee, a Gandhi ally and member of the Congress Party of India-Marxist said it's rumoured Ghandi's children were against her taking the job.
Looks like she didn't want the job after all.

She might have just wanted the BJP to get an electoral beat-down and used her name and skills to ensure that.

Or given the fact that two members of her family have been assassinated while holding the job could have put her off it.

Although I loved her speach; 'Having achieved the goal of setting this country back on the path of secularism, I feel that I have accomplished what I wanted' ... or something close to that.

It is a good thing that BJP lost. The hindu fundermentalist forces have been defeated.

However I think Sonia Gandhi should accept the Prime Minister's position. The people of India showed their support for her and refused to listen to BJP's personal attacks on her a forgeign born person.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.
