Yeah, and Game Informer's got it listed as September 1st.

It's all bullshit, in my opinion.

You'll note these are guesses. I preordered HL2 from EB games like a year ago, they've sent me a couple emails saying they have no clue when the game is coming out, but they are guessing sept 1st. It's as good a guess as any until valve opens up. Though I suppose after the last september fiasco they aren't exactly interested in getting people's hopes up (think how long they delayed the counter-strike bots over steam!).

As for the rocket, that isn't necessarily true. Recall what happens when he grabs the "ion mines" (I think thats what gamespy called them). The gravity gun grabs them and they stop, despite their desire to move towards gordon. So you never know; though that raises the question; if your bullet hits a missile or grenade, will it detonate like Doom 3(or that's what I've heard at least)? If yes, then gravity gun could, at least, alter the course of the missile.

There were two variations of the same strider video. Would this mean that those two sequences were non-scripted and were movies of the AI just being let loose?

If so, I think the AI did fairly well, especially the striders.

HL2, according to Valve, does not rely on scripts... so yeah, I'd say that was the AI.

At last year's E3 presentatiion, IIRC. That Strider seemed a lot less aggressive/accurate than these ones.

The striders seem to start using their disintegration cannons once a good number of attackers are dead? The combat starts with the striders just firing off their energy bolts; perhaps this isn't just a coincidence?

I guess that depends when you go into exile. My guess is that we'll see it come out around december. Now I hope I'm wrong and it's this summer, but I really doubt they'll make that happen.

I'm already working with some people on creating an SP mod for it.

I just downloaded the video, but now I can't get it to work. Quicktime says it doesn't recognize it as a valid file type, even though it is! I want to see this so bad! Can somebody help me?

I'm thinking they only do it when there is a group of characters together, or the player.

That is a reasonable responce. But that rasies the question why does it seem to switch over to disintegration, but not switch back, in the second strider sequence gordon is all alone, in a hole, and still gets hit by the distegration cannon. It needs line of sight to fire, so I suppose it raises the question, what exactly causes the strider to "switch" weapons.

Valve has given summer has a fairly accurate release date. They don't expect to be delayed, but they gave a loose time so they can pad things if they need it. I expect the game to be shipped no later then the second half of September at the worst.

I hope your right, I really do. But if they plan on releasing it over steam, that's a hell of a download, even if a marginal number of people choose to get it, say, 100,000 (I'd guess at least a million will have the game within a week), that's a lot of data for the Steam servers; on a good day the game might be 5 gigs. Get me if I'm wrong but that's 5 Petabytes. 5*10^15; that's a hell of a lot of data. Even over the course of a week, they'd need the capacity to upload terabytes per second, if they have that kind of capacity, but I won't hold my breath waiting for it.

Now then, who wants to put down bets?
A)Pre-orders
B) 1-week sales
C) 1-month sales
D) Steam sales 1-week
E) Steam sales 1-month

Mine would be:
a: 350,000
b: 1,125,000
c: 1,750,000
d: 100,000
e: 250,000

Unreal has always been ahead of the other two in terms of graphics, so one can say that it's not much of a surprise.

Gameplay-wise, that could be a different story (hint, Unreal 2) :P

That's not a fair comparison. Half life 2 and Doom 3 are coming out this year or early next year. Unreal 3 won't be out for 2 or 3.

I liked the gameplay of the original Unreal, though. The puzzles could be challenging; you could play it like Doom if you desired, but it made it much easier if you read the Nali sayings that were written all over. It still had nothing on Half-Life, though.

The best thing? Even today, the graphics of Unreal 1 are still amazing. As long as you're using their newer OpenGL renderer and not the software renderer, that is.

How is Unreal's physics engine better than the Source engine, exactly?
