The most slimy guilt by association trick ever

Post by Vympel »

BLITZER: There is a clear difference when it comes to abortion rights between the president and his Democratic challenger, John Kerry. In your opinion, Karen, how big of an issue will this abortion rights issue be in this campaign?

KAREN HUGHES (Bush-bitch): Well, Wolf, it's always an issue. And I frankly think it's changing somewhat. I think after September 11th the American people are valuing life more and realizing that we need policies to value the dignity and worth of every life.

And President Bush has worked to say, let's be reasonable, let's work to value life, let's try to reduce the number of abortions, let's increase adoptions.

And I think those are the kind of policies that the American people can support, particularly at a time when we're facing an enemy, and really the fundamental difference between us and the terror network we fight is that we value every life. It's the founding conviction of our country, that we're endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights, the right to life and liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Unfortunately our enemies in the terror network, as we're seeing repeatedly in the headlines these days, don't value any life, not even the innocent and not even their own.
Don't you just love these people?

Wow. That was the worst Ad Misericordiam argument I've ever seen. Too bad no one else was there to beat that woman down.

That fucking bitch. :x I wonder where such enlightened policy-makers were when they were deciding an invasion would be a worthy course of action? It only cost the dignity and worth of thousands of people. Not to mention their lives.

I said it once, and I'll say it again: we need a vomit emoticon. :x

The sad fact is that this is not going to be resolved by one election.

Not only is it slimy, it's such a clumsy smear.

She should go ask James Carville for advice on how to slime someone more smoothly.

What did he say?
He basically congratulated the Bush campaign on finding a way to link abortion and women's rights to terrorism. It's quite a feat, but I'm not at all surprised that they found a way to do it.

(the clip is shown)

John: GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO(takes a breath)OOOOOOOOOOAL!

Nobody spin-doctors better than the right-wingers.

Think of the sheer genius of sound-bite arguments that are so compact that you don't even need to use a whole sentence. Like the term "pro-life" for "anti-abortion" or "activist judges" for judges who interpret the constitution as per their job description, or "feminazis" for feminists, or "war on terror" instead of "war on al-quaeda", thus allowing them to bullshit their way into Iraq on the backs of dead 9/11 victims, or "defense of marriage" instead of "discrimination against gays", or "freedom of religion, not freedom from religion", etc.

Don't even think of comparing Carville to these guys. He's a rank amateur next to their genius skills of bullshittery.

They've already started their War on Pornography. I doubt we'll have to wait much longer for an official statement.

I disagree, at least as far as this Karen Hughes quote goes. It's so damned clumsy and obvious a reach, even to someone like me who would be predisposed to accept it at face value.

Carville or Morris wouldn't have been quite so obviously reaching.

As much as I dislike Clinton, I have to give him and Carville credit for making the Republicans in Congress look like idiots after the 1994 takeover. Their handling of Congress in the mid 90's was a masterwork of political ju-jitsu.

It was overflowing the table cells which contained user information because you didn't include any line-breaks. The location is fine; just put spaces in it.

Karen Hughes is incompetent. However, the right-wing as a whole has had a lot more success with bullshit rhetoric than the left-wing, as demonstrated by the sound-bite examples I listed earlier.
