This a horridly offensive move by the Bush Administration. The whole "gays are AIDS farms" is regressive and one of the original claims of homophobic bigotry. I'm appalled.

Surely there maybe some who think homosexuality is genetics-related, but fine. Simply add that to the profile of the sperm donor, and if there are concerned recipients, they can turn it down.

But no, its the fundies job to remove even the option from people. Oh yeah, its the homosexuals who're sticking their beliefs in the face of other people.

My god, that's so transparantly bigotted. In sperm banks already test and purify all sperm as a matter of procedure when they process it and have been doing it since sperm banks have existed. Sperm with STDs, no matter if they come for heterosexual or homosexual people, are thrown out. This doesn't actually create any additional protection to the process, it just says "We don't want the gays to donate. Their sperm might queer up the child."

If sufficient number of gay people LIE then a month later openly declare what they've done, they'd have to shut down all sperm banks in the country and do full disease checks, as well as check up on all the people they've given sperm to since.

This is a seriously major thing the FDA is doing, not because it's anti-gay but because gay people can use it to screw them up so bad it's not even funny.

Uh, I'd really like to see your sources for this because right now, I don't see anything in CDR, the CDC's archives or WHO's that puts one sexual preference over the other in terms of disease prevalence. Not long ago it was homosexuals who had the most STDs and conditions because of such pathogens, but that changed when people started giving a shit about HIV.

But now everyone's blissfully ignorant and I recall a report by the Royal Society a few years ago about such diseases on the rise in the UK at least.

By pure numbers, of course the majority will have more diseases, but if you go by percentage of those populations, it may change.

It's only been recently that the statistics changed, but they have changed a LOT.

According to the BBC, twice as many heterosexuals are now being diagnosed with HIV than homosexuals.

Well, remember, there's more than just HIV out there and numbers for HIV are generally low in the developed world as that report also states African encounters are a problem.

The likes of gonorrhea are going up in homosexuals dramatically due to new drug-resistance being acquired. I don't see it being as cut & dried as some make it out to be. There are plenty of reports on other diseases out there, but I'm not sifting through them just to try and make a point. STDs are on the increase and that's bad, no matter what sexual practice you get your jollies from (unless you like plush toy sex).

Due to there being more hetros than homos, the percentage is gunna be in the hetros favour.

I guess I should point out that, even if my statement were incorrect, it doesn't matter. Because, using the same logic, we should be able to bar all African-Americans from donating sperm, if they have a higher rate of STDs than other ethicitys.
