Last years sales of console games (not including rentals) was over 5 billion while PC games was just over 1 billion. This trend doesn't show any signs of slowing so you might want to either consider buying an X-Box or get used to 'getting shafted' (as you say).
That's still not a valid reason not to include a feature for one system that they had already gone to the trouble of balancing the game for and implementing.

Same reason Gearbox cut it out for Halo on the PC. They didn't want to write the extra network code, not the mention having to do it in such a way that wouldn't impact game performance. There is a big difference between split screen co-op (which is basically two cameras of the same game running on the same hardware) and different machine co-op (which is two instances of the game running and having to sync game data).

Gearbox didn't exactly cut coop out. Coop for the PC would have been LAN bassed, and that never existed to begin with. They merely didn't allow for splitscreen coop because thats not what the game is intended for.

This is besides the point, ID never said it was a networking issue as to why they are cutting it. They said they didn't want to put it on the PC flatout because they didn't want to "ruin" the singleplayer experience. They claim they would have had to design the Ai to handle coop and this ignores they already have the fucking AI designed on the X-Box.

Right, which is exactly what I said. What do you think I meant by network code?

I know what they said, but that doesn't mean it is the whole truth. The AI problem they refer to might merely be difficulty in keeping the AI code synched over a LAN, whereas on the Xbox it is all part of the same memory block. Also, saying that it is a creative decision sounds better than "technical difficulties" and I imagine that Carmack just wants to get the game out ASAP since he said last year that he was going to close down ID and fire everyone if they didn't ship Doom III in 2003.
