Bombs Found In Two Europe McDonalds

Post by Aaron »

CBC
CBC wrote:ROME - McDonald's restaurants were the targets of bombs in two European capitals Thursday.

Italian police defused two small homemade bombs discovered in travel bags outside the restaurant in the outskirts of Rome.

Police said a leaflet left with the devices was printed with the five-pointed star of the Red Brigades guerrilla group.

Although the devices were not powerful, the Interior Ministry warned the timing could be significant.

Thursday marked the fifth anniversary of the murder by the Red Brigades of an adviser to the government on controversial labour reforms.

In Istanbul, an explosion shook a parking garage outside a McDonald's restaurant. Turkish television reports no one was hurt but showed two cars completely gutted by the explosion.

There were no reports on whether the two incidents were connected.

Meanwhile, police in Athens destroyed a small time-bomb found near a major complex for the Summer Olympics.

The bomb was found about a kilometre from where baseball, basketball and field hockey events will be staged.
Could the Greek bomb be a preview of trouble to come during the olympics?

It could be, but security right now is only a fraction of what it will be during the games. But of course, such a security setup must have a perimeter somewhere, and outside of that planting bombs will still be pretty easy. Still simply keeping the bombs away from major events, thus reducing there shock value by far, is a winning tactic when your fighting terrorists.

The Red Brigade? Weren't they decimated by the mafia a couple decades back? Or is that just legend?

Don't worry, if we invade Iraq we'll stop terrorism. There shouldn't be a problem.

They'll run out of bombs, bodies and plane tickets if we press them hard enough. Make ready the atomics.

Why the olympics?

Post by Aaron »

Why would terrorists consider the olympics as a target. It's not like the olmypics or the Greeks are activly opressing people. Is it just because they are there? A symbol of western afluence?

Why wouldn't they consider the Olympics a target? They're usually full of fun-loving people wanting to enjoy themselves at a sports event. There's all that symbol crap about 'nations getting together and competing peacefully' and so on.

Embassies are like happy meals; you can find them anywhere and they're common targets. The Olympics would be a Lobster mornay in comparison. And like all terrorists, they want to... er, eat ... lobster. You know what I mean.

You have heard of what happened at the Munich games in 1972?

Yes it was.

Why the Olympics?

For the spectacle naturaly. An audience of billions get to see your crackpot cause in all it's gory. Im surprised there haven't been even more maniacs going on killing sprees during the Olympics. Then of course there is the added bonus of striking against peaceful coexistance and friendly competition, not ideals highly regarded by raving fanatics.

You're thinking of the german group "Red Army Faction". Someone didn't appreciate them blowing up the Bonn embassy.

No, he is thinking of the Italian Communist movement (workers party) that was brutally crushed in Sicily by the mafia.
