Transformers: The Movie
Okay, the one damn thing Shep has done, (since posting that picture of what he looks like and forever making me think his name is really Chester) right on this board was posting a picture of Unicron and making me want to re watch Transformers The Movie. Alright, so what Cal, what the fuck is the point? Well you little fucktards (damn that word's smooth.) this is what's up. To me, it's still larger than life. I wasn't exactly born when Star Wars hit, so Transformers for me is the next big thing. So as I was watching it a little while ago, I started picking up some erks. I mean, come one, I ain't a kid anymore so the story is gonna hit some hitches now and then. So the piont of the thread is this. Improvements to Transformers the Movie if we were to make another one. Based off of the original movie. I'll post a coupld of things that came to mind, sort of help y'all out and then I'll come back with a longer list. So here goes...
First off, the movie is less than 90mins (86 mins I believe). There is just so much shit they crammed into those 90mins that it loses it's coherence. So this is the start of changes. It's length will now be 120 mins at the minimum. No more than 2 1/2 hours though. This will allow the situation on Earth to develop better, and give Optimus Prime and Megatron more fighting time. Also, push back Unicron's advancement on Cybertron.
Second, and this change will be humongous. Transformers the Movie will be a duology. Hell yeah, you heard it right. Two movies, 120 mins in length for both. Neither to exceed 2 1/2 hours. Remember that little Unicron thing I mentioned. Near the end of the first movie, Unicron shall change Megatron to Galvatron and send him out on his mission. At the beginning of the second movie, we can show Galvatron taking the Matrix and heading back to Unicron. During that time, Galvatron will learn of Unicron's devourment of both moons. Then we can stretch out things a tad bit, and then Unicron will begin to destroy Cybertron and the autobots show up. That said, we could have about 30-45minutes of action inside and outside of Unicron.
The biggest thing about making it two parts, is so we can build up the awesomeness of Unicron more, and take more time with his downfall. He went down quick so the scope has to be broadened.
Alright, ther eyou go, let's hear what you guys have to say. Either changes, or you can make praises and why liked it. This thread is about Transformers the Movie. So let's see an Admiral Kanos turnout.

Damnit I can't edit. I was thinking of a reply to one of Shep's posts when I did that. Ray was the real hero to come through with the Unicron pic. Good work Ray.

There are some plot holes you'd need to fix along the way like;
* The first Autobot shuttle apparently having no sensors to pick up the attacking Decepticons (this was explained in the comic in that the shuttle was flying through an asteroid belt at the time but even that's rather weak).
* The way the Autbots keep nearly all their energon reserves on Earth even though they're planning an attack to retake Cybertron and need the energon to do it.
* Prowl dying. That should just. not. be.

Also, since it would no longer be made with Toys in mind, you can pretty much reduce the Gratuitous Autobot Offing, or at least make it look the there was more of a battle and less of a slaughter. You can also put in some of the "newer" transformers of the era, like Tracks and Hoist. Not to mention knock-down, drag-tout battles feauturing Menasor, Superion and the other Gestalts.
Get rid of all that SAD 80's music ... espcially "You Got the Touch"
I can't believe they used that in Boogie Nights.

Re: Transformers: The Movie
I'm not sure I'd give Prime and Megatron so much "more fighting time." I'd rather see a montage of scenes in a narrated prologue recounting the history of the war on Cybertron, the epic battles on Earth, and the intervening years between the 80s era of the series and the movie. That would more effectively underscore the dramatic significance of the final battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron and their resulting deaths (some people think Megatron "died" when Unicron transformed him into Galvatron).DG_Cal_Wright wrote:First off, the movie is less than 90mins (86 mins I believe). A prologue would also go a long way toward resolving one of the biggest gripes I had about the movie: that it "fast-forwarded" the storyline some 20 years into the future. The whole "robots in disguise" on modern-day-Earth angle was lost once they did that. It also meant that we missed out on a lot of history. I want at least a glimpse of the "lost years."

This is something that's been bugging me for years... You know Arcee? And you know the way that every Transformer had a MOS (Like Wheeljack - engineer, Ratchet - medical officer, Hound - scout, etc.)?
What was Arcee's job? What did she do when she wasn't pouring cold water on Hot Rod's adolescent robot libedo and shooting shit up?

A couple of questions about the soundtrack:
1) Whats the name of the song, and who sang it, that goes somethng like:
"Dare. Dare to keep all your dreams alive"
If you've played "African Detroit Cop" at thejatman.com it's the song you get after winning.
2) Apparently Weird Al Yankovics "Dare to be Stupid" is somewhere in the movie. Does anyone know where?

Alright, here's my first line of posts for this one.
This will just hit the surface of things to change. I will agree, this bugged me when I was watching the movie, was the 80s music. It wasn't even really good then. When Prime gears up and 'You got the Touch' comes on, I cringed. I wish I had the DVD, a DVD drive on my computer so I could go in, and rip out the old music and put him some real slamming rock. For instance when Megatron transforms and Starscream takes down the Autobots on the shuttle, that's when AC-DCs 'Big Gun' needs to fire up, or 'TNT'. Something along those lines. When Prime transforms, maybe Blur's 'Song 2', or Limp Bizkit's 'My Way.' This could really just take the downward spiral with this kind of music, but I don't think it would 'date' the movie the way the 80's music did. Plus find some orchastrated pieces, or have them scored originally.
I think Galvatron has a good point though. Something has to be done so it doesn't seem so fast forwarded. I really don't recall Ultra Magnus from the original series, yet a friend of mine says he came in late. This is still odd because Prime calls him an 'old friend' and passes the 'matrix' over to him. Something about that needs to be touched. I do still think however that Prime and Megatron need a longer, harder battle to really put them through the ringer. If someone of the magnitude such as Prime is going to die, then it really needs to be hell. One other point, Megatron did die. He was never, ever Megatron or even in the same league as Megatron when he was turned into Galvatron. I do believe they did an incrediable job showing his difference. He tried to be cunning and ruthless but he really didn't cuz the snuff, especially being under the thumb of Unicron.
The autobots on Earth really need to be shown getting thier asses handed to them. It should be no question that the Decepticons could kick the living crap out of the Autobots. It also strenghtens the part were the autobots are actually driven off of Cybertron. There just needs to be a hellacious amount of Autobots going down for the count.
Dare to Be Stupid was playing on the Planet Junk, when the Junkions were chasing the Autobots.
That's enough for this post. I'll post more changes later.

Of course I do. Foolish carbon slugbeast.DG_Cal_Wright wrote:I think Galvatron has a good point though.
In retrospect, Ultra Magnus should have been shown fighting alongside Prime as a trusted friend and second banana during the early days of the war up to the launching of the Ark. I see him as (cartoon) Shockwave's equivalent as the brevet commander of the Autobots on Cybertron during the four million years that the Ark was MIA.DG_Cal_Wright wrote:Something has to be done so it doesn't seem so fast forwarded. An extended battle I can agree to. That would rock.DG_Cal_Wright wrote:I do still think however that Prime and Megatron need a longer, harder battle to really put them through the ringer. If someone of the magnitude such as Prime is going to die, then it really needs to be hell.
I disagree. Why did Unicron bother trying to bargain with Megatron if he knew Galvatron was going to be an entirely new being with a different personality?DG_Cal_Wright wrote:One other point, Megatron did die. Movie Galvatron was every bit as cunning and ruthless as Megatron. Post-movie Galvatron was insane. IMO, he was driven mad as a result of his master's death and/or the months he spent submerged in the "lava pits" on the planetThrull.DG_Cal_Wright wrote:I do believe they did an incrediable job showing his difference. Ultra Magnus didn't appear until the movie - your friend is probably confusing his appearances with season 3 of the cartoon, which took place post-movie.
And I like *most* of the TF: Movie soundtrack - 'You've got the touch' is very cheesey but it's *meant* to be.
'Dare to be stupid' was played in the movie with the Junkions were celebrating with the Dinobots, Hot Rod, and Kup.
Just for general information, Transformers eps and the movie are available for download at http://www.tfarchive.com

If you're gonna improve it you would have to incorporate the subplot elements from the comics that printed...You know, the story were just after Galva is created hetakes Cyclonus and Scourge back in time (trying to avoid Unicrons beady eyes) to create a super weapon that will destroy Uni on return to 2005/6. (just remembered, was the comic story called Target 2006???)...
And according to the comics, Ultra Magnus was created on Cybertron after Prime and his 'elite' (my god, those were the best of the best) had disappeared. (I guess they wanted someone who would have stood a chance going toe-2-toe with a con)....
I'm so sad, (not because I like Transformers but because of bad weatherin 1984/5 in England I'm missing 4 comics out of the 330+ UK comics that were printed....)
Boo..
