Jedi Knight II

Post by Guest »

Where does the Jedi Knight 2 game feature in the time line. My guess was that it's somewhere arround the Jedi Accademy times because Mon Mothma is still in charge yet the Accademy seems to be in full swing. Is it perhaps just a flawed story line.

Just say he's right and be done with it. Too much thinking about KJA has been linked to irreperable brain damage.

What about Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight? (the original)

The timeline of the original Dark Forces is quite obvious- around the time of A New Hope.

It has to be before the Thrawn Trilogy. Mysteries of the Sith was set shortly after the trilogy and DF2.

Basically, when it's set to 3000, if someone so much as touches your sabre they are going to instantly go to pieces. It's funny as hell to watch.

Really, it always works fine for me. I love hacking up stormtroopers with the NPC spawn code and taking screenshots of the carnage.

The events in MotS are supposed to take place 5 years after JK:DF2. JK2:JO takes place 8 years after the Battle of Endor. However, I don't know if Raven took MotS into consideration when making the storyline to JK2:JO. There's no mention of anything from MotS in JK2:JO, and, IIRC, Kyle's hair was much more aged in MotS, and his lightsaber was a different color. Granted, those are sort of nitpicks, but still...

I wish I had the Dark Forces graphic novel handy, but I think that JK:DF2 was set somewhat before the events of RotJ, maybe a year or a year and a half.

Does the Realistic Combat go up to 3000? Another thing. Realistic Combat still isn't realistic against Desann, Tavion, or Fyyar (Man this guy's annoying!). But it's fun to set it to Realistic Combat and watch Reborn and Shadow Troopers run at you, touch the lightsaber and fly into pieces. BTW, you part the in the Temple where there's a mirror, before you fight Desann? If you take out the lightsaber, det it to 1st person view, and walk up to the mirror, you'll see two hands and a lightsaber floating in the air. Weird.

Yeah, I think that's the highest level you can set it to. And at that level, it certainly is realistic with Tavion and Desann. but not Fyyar (I can produce some screenshots of a de-limbed, beheaded Tavion if you wish).

I think realistic saber combat only goes up to 9... But at that point your lightsaber functions EXACTLY like it does in the movies (999+ damage perscond, tested with undying code)

It's generally agreed on theForce.net Lit Forum that it takes place around Starfighters of Adumar or Crystal Star or so. Mon Mothma has taken a role as Intelligence consultant or something, she IS NOT the Chief of State (who'd expect that individual to brief mercs anyway?).

I hated the storyline, personally.

IIRC, she briefed Kyle back in the days of the first game, which took place roughly around the timeline of ANH.

Could have been better, but at least they handled Kyle's rapid progression through the force better in JK2 than they did in JK1. In JK1 there was no real rhyme or reason behind it, and you became more powerful if you found secret areas. I did kind of like the fact that your actions decided if you were light or dark, however. The Dark Side ending for JK1 was pretty cool, even if it was the "wrong" ending.

She briefed Kyle in the original game because getting part of the DS I plans and the sabotage of the Dark Trooper project were of top Alliance concern. Remember the chain of command and command responsibilities were kind of shifty in the ANH days.

By JK I she's head of the New Republic High Council a year or couple after ROTJ. The "excuse" for Kyle's power is as follows.

1. His sabre skills were easily acquired because he'd taken extensive fencing training while at the Imperial Academy (don't get me started on how a metal sword is NOTHING like a lightsabre when it comes to technique and muscle memory).

2. His Force skills were helped with a few tips from Skywalker and the tutelege of the Jedi Spirit of uh....that guy who's lightsabre he has (memory fucked).

3. His supposed to have very powerful potential in the Force (don't get me started on how I want to smack down the JK cultists in theForce.net's Lit forum for spread bullshit that he's better then Luke).

4. He was able to beat Jerec (which EU revisionist history said rivaled Vader in power  ) because he was the "chosen one" of the "prophecy" to free the Jedi spirits trapped in the Forcewell of the Valley of the Jedi as a residual affect of the climatic conclusion of the Battles of Ruusan between the Jedi and Sith one thousand year prior).

I hate Kyle Katarn now. I used to think he was cool back in the days of the original Dark Forces. Now he's a one-uping loser who is Han and Luke combined from the OT and his gf is a combination between Leia and Chewie's roles. Come on, his dad was killed by Jerec. Jerec rivals Vader. Kyle actually gets to kill Jerec. Kyle is a savior. Seeing a pattern of malignant one-up ism? I do. Those LucasArts morons can't hold a candle to Luke and the other OT heroes.

This is another evil EU scheme. Create a character who is 10% better than the original (Luke, etc.) in every way.

I'd like to see another SW FPS that doesn't utilize Force Powers, personally. There's plenty of stuff in the SW galaxy to play around with without having to make the main character a Jedi... not that I'm knocking it, I just wanna see more technotoys thrown into the mix... I mean, really, how many people used the lightsaber less than 90% of the time after they first got it? The only other guns you probably used was either the sniper rifle or one of the heavy guns to take down an AT-ST.
