Cool thing from there:
STEWART: Finally, will there be a co-operative mode? (I'm probably pushing my luck here, since you said you want to keep the multiplayer side of HL2 a big secret... but hey... you can't blame me for trying...)

GABE: We aren't doing a cooperative mode, but a couple of MOD teams want to do one so we'll work with one of them.

Valve is working with Sven Co-op on creating tools specificaly to allow them to modify the game so that coop is possible.

Holy shit! I just finished downloading and unarchiving a port of HL1 for the HL2 beta, and all I can say is WOW. It looks fantastic with the Source lighting and physics powering it! Unfortunately, only the standard (albeit converted to the HL2 version of the .mdl spec) HL1 models are used, rather than the much better ones in the High Definition pack included with Blue Shift.

If anyone wants some screens, let me know.

Are they doing anything for the final port in terms of models, textures, and other media?
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

I'm hoping a mod crew will pick it up and do geometry. Otherwise it looks pretty good.

I was under the impression actually that the final (and official, not fan-done like the above) port of HL1 will be like the port of CS: complete with new models, textures, and all that.

We can hope.

In the very least I do hope they will release it with HD pack models.

I didn't notice much graphical improvement in those shots at first, but HOLY SHIT! That water! Looks weird to see it with all that old level design, and it looks even stranger to see good old HL1 Barney with a ragdolled corpse. :)

Update: I just discovered that some outdoor levels utilize a portal sky. Screens are below.

The level in which the Osprey was introduced

The hydroelectric dam

The water in the same level

The level with the minefield

One nice thing is that unlike most games with portal skies, the sky does not remain stationary as you move. Its relative movement as you move is just like it would be if it was actual level geometry. Perhaps this means that the port I have is actually the Valve port, rather than a totally fan-made port?

That isn't quite as fancy as I had hoped, but then again, thats all HL1 content, how could it be?

Hey, speaking of the dam, how were you supposed to pass that? I always just jumped down the side and slid to that rock... whether by accident or design, I never lost any health, only about 60 points off my HEV.

Your supposed to climb up that little tower and turn off the intake rotors. This allows you to swim through the pipe into the other side.

Jump down in the water, kill the Ichthyosaur (or kill it before you get in the water), climd up the ladder on the side of that tower that the Vortigaunt and Marine came out of, press the button inside to turn off the propellers in the tunnels at the bottom of the dam, then go back in the water and swim through the tunnels to the other side.

I never did all that because it kept crashing when the helicopter shot the dam...

I guess it doesn't matter, as I passed it. :P

I just blew the shit out of the Apache. Never underestimate the ability high-explosives have in solving problems.

Hmm.... I charged up that rail gun and blew a hole into the chopper and made it crash, that's how I got rid of it.

But high explosives work too, like the time I'm sure everyone blew an apache out of the sky with that RPG. :D

I was so awful at that game the first time through, I think I used my last few bullets to take down that chopper.

Great screens. So excited! Hmm, I wonder what Natural Selection would be like with that engine...

Just a little something I saw from those emails: They'll have a subtitling feature for HL, so you can have characters speak in other languages no problem.

Sweet. I used to have a few of Sven's coop packs installed. While their level designs were IMO a little amateurish in a lot of cases, they were fun to play...
