I'm sorry if this has been posted.

Appearantly some town in Missouri got a 270,000ish dollar grant to help fight goths. Good news is they're returning the money for lack of interest in Goth-fighting in the community.

My question is: What the hell is the "Goth problem" they've been talking about? So what if some teenagers decide to dress up in all black and avoid exposure to the sun, it's not like they're sacrificing babies at midnight, although they probably thought that.

About time we did something about those damn Goths! Invading the Empire, sacking Rome, conquering Spain, executing poor Boethius... they've had this coming for millenia! Not to mention their dominance in architecture. I am shocked and appalled at the lack of interest in Goth-fighting. Missouri will be wishing they kept the money when Theodoric is at the gates!

I mean, police have tried to stop Vandals for centuries. Now it's the Goths' turn!

If only the good citizens of Missouri had your classical education the now inevitable sack of Kansas City could have been prevented, they should never have taken greek and latin off the syllabus

Man, the guy who was fighting the goths sure had a punny name:

Blue Springs received the grant two years ago from the Youth Outreach Unit, money the city and U.S. Rep. Sam Graves trumpeted proudly as a way to fight a perceived Goth problem.

At least goth mythos was disspelled a bit, even if the stupider goths probably disliked that.

When I first saw this thread, I thought I was in OSF for a second, and there was a book out involving Grant and the Union Army being sent back in time or something to fight the Goths. I thought that was weird, but the truth is even more fucked up. What a waste of government money and time.

Belisarius doesn't need money to fight the Goths, he can do it with scrap metal and a few convicts. If he goes up against, say, the Wermacht, then he might need a government grant in order to send the Germans fleeing back to their holes.

They're either morose teenagers and young adults who dress all in black, wear black lipstick, long hair, huge boots, listen to depressingly loud music and make numerous other vaguely sinister fashion statements (about seventy-five percent of them shop at Hot Topic, thus somehow confirming their status as "nonconformists") or some of the ferocious, bloodythirsty barbarian warriors from the east that swept across the Roman Empire, pillaging, burning, and destroying as they went. The Visigoths came down across the Danube, crushed the Empire at Adrianople, sacked Rome and eventually settled in Spain until they were swept away by the Muslim invasion. The Ostrogoths pushed through and settled in Italy until they were destroyed by a mixture of Lombards and a very large helping of whoopass dealt out by the greatest general ever to live, Belisarius.
