Spell-checking for SD.Net posts!

Post by Darth Wong »

One catch: you have to be using the version of Konqueror which comes with KDE 3.2, which is the desktop environment in Mandrake Linux 10.0 :D

Still, it's pretty cool. What other web browsers do automatic spell-checking for text input windows? Does Opera do it?

Ah. For a moment there, I thought you had added a spell-check function to the actual board. I found the idea to be bad, as it would prevent us being able to weed out the idiots as quickly.

I know of no similar feature in Opera, though I am no Opera expert.

I believe Mozilla has a spellchecker module available; I've seen it in the Mandrake Cooker RPM lists, but haven't bothered trying it.

I use the fantastic Internet Explorer 6. Luckily it's idiot friendly... but then I think I know how to spell as it is.

I've been known to simply open a word processor and press the 'Spell check button'
I've been asked why I still follow a few of the people I know on Facebook with 'interesting political habits and view points'.

It's so when they comment on or approve of something, I know what pages to block/what not to vote for.

Safari (MacOS X) does spellchecking as well. It's based on the KHTML engine, but uses OS X's native spellcheck service. I think Mozilla has a component, too.

not necessarily. spellcheckers are great for making sure you got the complicated words right, but horrible for catching grammatical mistakes. idiots would still miss those. (ie - spellcheckers can't seem to distinguish between context usages of their, they're, and there, as all are spelled correctly yet mean different things, depending on usage).

Both Safari and OmniWeb on OS X use the system's built-in spell-checker, which is available for any native text field in any Cocoa application (IM clients, text editors, web browsers, mail clients, et cetera ... all use the same dictionary). I use Safari.

If I'm really concerned about spelling, I can always copy and paste my post into word and type there, so I probably wouldn't have much use for a feature like that.

I don't need a spell checker, and I will oppose any spell check addition to the board. 1: Trolls will be spotted more easily, and 2: misspellings don't bother me. :)

Bah, despite it's superior attributes, you shouldn't use Linux because:
