Starfire vs Wing Commander

Post by Stormbringer »

The Terran Federation as of the end of the Shiva option versus the Terran Confederation and the Kilrathi as of the end of Wing Commander: Prophecy.

Warp points will be treated as the same thing as jump points.

Man, the freespace Terrans would totally arse-rape Wing Commander.

The Colossus anyone?

Actually he's talking about the terrans from the Starfire series.

Of course they outrange the WC forces by so much it's not funny, and relativistic fighter strikes are common place.

Oh shit. Read that as Shivans rather than Shiva conflict... Sorry. My bad.

I would cast my lot with the Starfire Terrans.

Starfire Terrans would win entirely to easily, provided that their warp point system extends throughout Confederation and Kilrathi space. 20 LS effective ranges combined with speeds of up to 12%of light would obliterate Wing Commander with little effort.

Although I know nothing about Starfire other than it being written by Weber (and having cool covers), WC ships are capable of reaching up .7C with scoops closed, as I understand.

Provided you give them enough time to accelerate yes.

However Starfire's inertialess drives give them the greater advantage of acceleration, it makes them manueverable enough that they can render that higher speed meaningless since the WC ship would then have to slow down and accelerate again.

Couple that with the range advantage and relativistic fighter runs..

Starfire missiles are capable of .8c clocking by the SBM's range, and the fact that the missile seems to arrive in the same combat turn.

How long is the turn?

Not to mention the Starfire physics notes give their speed as .8c, fighters as .1c, and capships from.06 <-> .08c. Slower than WC on average but more than made up for by the incrediblt manuvering abilty.

Fighters are stated to be able to hit .8c at full power (though it's punishing for the pilots)

I could have sworn it was a .2 c per unit of tactical speed, did they change the scaling in the new edition or something? My latest rule book is from wgen TFG held the rights.
