Halo- The look on your buddy's face change from glee as he rushes to run you over with his warthog to fear when he realizes that you've got a rocket launcher trained at his Warthog and there is nothing he can do to stop you except keep charging. (The Warthog flipping over my head was f-ing sweet by the way.)

FFVIII- When The Ragnarok opens up with it's mini-guns.

FFVII- First using Knights of the Round. (Other good ones already mentioned)

Total Annihilation- Attacking a well armed base with 5 Krogoths. Another good TA moment was having my defenses torn apart after a brutal attack and sending out 20 zippers which used harrasing tactics to slow down and destroy enough of a large enemy force to make them pull back the first assault, then slow them down enough for my defenses to be back online. That was SO great.

I'm not a big Resident Evil fan, but that very first encounter with a zombie Rottweiler in the first game almost made me shit my pants. You're just walking down a hall, the only hostiles you've seen are some very slow human zombies, when suddenly this skinless dog *explodes* in through the window very close to the camera. I don't care if you have balls of steel, the first time that happens you're mashing the fire button like a madman and gibbering incoherently.

Many moments in Freespace 2 (I didn't play yet the first game).
Also BattleZone II - another very atmospheric game.

And many others I don't remember exactly right now.

TA Moment: A kind of recreation of the Battle of Hoth on the map "The Cold Place", with my friend playing Core (Empire) and myself playing Arm (RA). Yes, I lost. But man, was that a cool game. I was pretty incompetent at it, which was why my friend managed to kill me. I had a defence line which was breached by Cans (ATATs). My fighters were ineffectual, and my defence line was completely smashed. He then sacrificed his commander - who carries a mininuke backpack - and wiped out my base. I retreated, taking what little survivors I had left to my secondary secret base. It was on the remotest corner of the map, with a radar jammer providing cover. I was going to build stealth fighters and do hit-and-fade missions, but alas he found me and sent in the stormtroopers.

But man what a ride. Even though I lost I was working my butt off trying to delay the inevitable. I changed strategy, and tried adapting to the situation. Unfortunately I lost, but it was a good defeat. :? Whatever the hell that means...

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past: First finding the Master Sword.

Ocarina of Time: *The end of Link's final battle with Ganon, when Link stabs him in the head.
*When Link travels seven years into the future for the first time and we see the ruins of Hyrule Castle Town with all those ReDeads...
*Speaking of ReDeads, when I first saw and heard one I nearly shit myself.

Wind Waker: *Finding the Master Sword in that little room and seeing all the stained glass pictures of the Sages around the room.
*Learning that Tetra was actually Zelda.
*Watching the three pearls raise the Tower of the Gods.

Chrono Trigger: *When you first visit 2300AD and find the computer record of the Day of Lavos in the Arris Dome. It had that alternate Lavos music while it was playing, the one where it shifts into that soft, depressing piano after two codas.
*When you're about to go fight Magus for the first time, and the only way through is via the magic cave. You get to the area and notice that the cave's been blocked off, and Frog/Glenn asks Crono for his sword, and as his music swells, Glenn reclaims the Masamune and slices open the way.
*Also, later on, when Glenn finds Cyrus's grave and the true identity of the Masamune is restored.
*Finally, the end of the Ocean Palace...where you face Zeal and Lavos and Crono is killed trying to fight it. That was spine-chilling.

Skies of Arcadia Legends: *Like someone else said, first getting the Delphinus and blasting out of Valua.
*Defeating a Gigas for the first time.
*The final battles with Zelos(?) and Ramirez.

FFIV: *When Cecil becomes a Paladin.
*When Cecil finally calls Golbez "brother".

FFVI: *When Terra learns of her true nature.
*The Opera House.
*Cyan...

FFVII: When the plate falls. That was amazing.

FFX: The aftermath of the Al Bhed/Crusader attack on Sin. That was so depressing...

Toejam & Earl: The first encounters with the Mad Dentist, the Boogey Man, the Phantom Ice-Cream Truck and the Fat Man with the Lawnmower.

Toejam & Earl 2: The first time I ran into the Singing Naked Man in a Box.

Too many to remember but let's see-
-The opening movie of 'MechCommander'.
-SS2: The 'meet the Many' sequence (especially at 4 a.m. with no clue what's going to happen  )
-The 'meet the real Polito' sequence
-first run-in with Seductresses in M&M 2
-first use of Vorpal Swords on Aurak Draconians in the DragonLance CRPGs
-the 'Starfleet registry code' riddle in M&M IV or V
-accidentally kiling an enemy with a thrown buckler in 'Dungeon Master'
-encountering the 100ft high SAM launchers in 'F-29 Retaliator'
-same game: encountering an indestructible radar station (okay so we gave up after the 97th Tomahawk)
-'Red Storm Rising'-being ordered to intercept an Amphibious Assault Fleet towards Iceland-with no sonar, no radar, no weapons left and a max speed of 8 knots...
-too many to mention in the LucasArts adventures ('I am Guybrush Threepwood, a mighty pirate!')
-lots of store items in Penultima Rerolled (NWN campaign)
-clicking needlessly on the units in 'Warcraft' games
-ditto for the BG Series ('Make way Evil! I'm six foot tall and packing a hamster!')
-NPC dialogue in BG2
-crashing into the ground in a vertical dive in F-16 Falcon-while chasing a MiG-21 6,000 yards straight ahead
-accidentaly killing
a) a bulletin board, and
b) a camel
in Gunship 2000
-the respective NWC intro movies of M&M IV and V
-the deadest whale in the history of naval combat in '688 Attack Sub'
(target identified roughly 2 seconds before 4 Mk48s hit it:'Submerged target:biological')
-killing the 'Yamato' in 'Silent Service 2'-with my final torpedo
-killing a heavy cruiser with the deck gun in the same game-because I had run out of torpedoes...
-first encounter with a lobster man in 'XCOM-Terror From the Deep'
.
..
...
okay, I'll shut up now.
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'

Hmm... A few good ones.

I really liked the black and white time frozen Hyrule in Wind Waker. Walking around there, see what appeared to be a battle completely frozen in time looked really cool. Of course, when time restarted and they all turned on me it was time to party. :)

The big bad plot twist in Knights of the Old Republic caught me by surprise, too. And they even had a video showing all the major clues leading up to the twist just to show the player that it was there all along. Very skillfully done.

Kingdom Hearts, Whinnie the Pooh. Says it all, really. That was nosalgia lane right there.

The first time I played Viewtiful Joe in a shop demo. That game just got so much right and even had a catchy catch phrase... "Henshin-a-go-go baby!"

The "Great Mindfuck" of Metal Gear Solid 2 was pretty nice, too. Rarely does a stealth/military game have such a wacky ending, and the worst part is I just accepted it as part of the story, when it is supposed not to make sense.

"The apprentice has learned his final lesson."

I just love that line from the Dark Side ending in KOTOR. It's one of the ones you can use in the final conversation with a dying Malak.

The Fallout ending was badass as well in a depressing way. All that to save the vault and then they won't let you back in because you've became dangerous.

The shotgun wedding in Fallout 2 was hillarious.

Another FFVI one, when Shadow decides to stay as the island crashes.
Both because he's a bad ass and because the bastard had a young daughter, and just decides he's done with living.

Any time Minsc or The sentient sword is around in Baldar's Gate 2.

Watching a manipule of Multibeam Frigates open fire on a Beast fighter attack in Homeworld: Cataclysm. The particle beams are almost ethereally beautiful as they carve the enemy to flaming shreds.

The ending sequence for Final Fantasy VIII. It was very cinematic, and a lot of people don't like that in video games, but it was very well-directed, and the 15-minute orchestral ending piece was excellent. The beginning with "Liberi Fatali" was good, as well.

TIE Fighter had so many good moments; I can't remember them all.
