So? A modern sniper rifle wouldn't go through that?

Well, you said it was an archaic sniper rifle- but that's besides the point, because I just remembered, Jormungandr is currently under home rule, as per my agreement with the Asgard back at the beginning. The only Ousters are at the air defense bases around the city and on the obiting trading stations.

You've just pasted a local cop, nice work

By the way, about the "Archaic" rifle.

Since the KSE has such advanced energy weapons technology, any projectile based weapons system is considered "Archaic"

Jormungandr
Ouster Occupation Region, Rimwards edge of Known Space

Jormungandr City's center was almost parisian in design- Long blocks of elaborate, low buildings. Wide boulevardes and beautiful parks were all a part of the residential/cultural district's motif. When the black ships had come two months before, most of the brief ground campaign had been fought in the rambling industrial arcologies in the suburbs- Luckily for fans of architecture and old-world charm across the sector.

The occupation had been brutally efficient- The 'gandrites had fought hard, with resistance fighters materialising almost as the conventional army collapsed. The Hajr had put the rebellion down- the locals lacked a Covenanter's fanatacism, and once it became clear that resistance would be crushed and the new owners were content to let the locals get about their lives, things returned to something not far from normal. Occaisional civil disobedience was ignored- the Ousters had imposed no new laws, and besides the regular security check-points and the military scans of incoming cargoes, life returned to normal.

Now, with the llimited-use pact signed between the Asgard and the Hajr, elections for local officials would soon begin. Besides the ban on an independent military and the mining rights clauses, the locals would son be returning to self-rule. Of course, with Ouster clusters already forming across the system's Oort clouds and asteroid belts, there was little question as to whether or not the Hajr had succeeded in this region.

Along Jormungandr City's central road, a parade marched. The lion and fist of Jormungandr flew from a hundred banners, and below it, the simple white-starburst on black of the Hajr. There was some resentment in the crowd- after all, the honor guard lining the street consisted of Hajr gropos in heavy power-armor. Never the less, the atmosphere was lukewarm at worst.

Asgard observers were welcomed, comfortably quartered, granted free runof the world, and otherwise largely left to their own devices- besides, of course, the agents tracking them at a safe distance. The Hajr had no interest in seeing the Asgard delegates stirring up dissent.
Hajr withdrawal from Jormungandr.

If you're looking for trouble, head to Hudson. That's where the action's at.

Fair nough about the "archaic" rifle. A modern sniper-rifle couldn't penetrate Hajr infantry power suits, tho a 50cal rifle probably could kill the occupant easily enough..

(I won't do it without your permission.)

Actually, this was brought on by me reading to Mk. 1 thread and thinking "Damn. I used to be good at this."

I should warn you- Having a random Floater approach a Hajr military base would be sort of like some Canadian guy approach NORAD and say "Well, sup! we're sort of from the same general country-area, so could I have a poke around?"

You'd have far more luck with a civilian Cluster.

Inisha and Avalon are Floater clusters, BTW, some of those which were in Arcane territory before Ix'agal.

I don't suppose you'll give me hints as to how to get onto one of your civillian clusters?

(As far as I know, regular floaters aren't allowed on.)

well, they aren't technically under Hajr rule, so an idea might be to, well, ask...?

I dunno, they would trade with floaters, probably. Show up with a convoy of goods, or show up with a letter of marque from Shiva, offering to build a trade alliance?

Hajr fortresses are tough to get on to, civilian clusters, on the other hand....

Ill need to write an Invader's Guide soon. for reference, Hudson has about a dozen medium to large civilian clusters, and, get this, most of their population is elysium-born, so they aren't used to Known Space culture at all. So names include Meshif, Analfas, and Seichtzehn.

You know, I would think that it would be bad manners to just pop in on top of someone's homeworld unannounced, even in times of relative peace. It's a good way to get yourself blown to pieces by defending fleets and orbital defence. In times of conflict, such as we are in now, the people in charge of the defenses of homeworlds, especially Earth, are likely to be just a wee bit more trigger happy. ;)

It's just as easy to pop out towards the Oort cloud or just outside, announce your presence, and get clearance from the local Space Traffic Controllers to come in on an approved vector, and in fact it's really easier, since you don't have to worry about being pegged by high-velocity debris in orbit over the planet, or a ship which comes out of hyperspace right on your position. The farther out you are from the system when you come out of hyperspace, the less hassles you'll have to deal with overall.

Also, the Oort clouds are so very, very lonely. Nobody visits them anymore. Please, think of the Oort clouds. :)

No. I know you didn't ask me, but just so we're clear on that. I let the Floaters have the odd asteroid belt, but Floaters aren't exactly in the habit of attempting to conquer systems, unlike you.

Ravenlock systems are busy as heck, thanks to numerous factors, and we love our Oort clouds. They are good to us, and we are good to them.

We keep them and love them and hug them and call them George.

Our Oort Clouds are owned by private mining companies for the most part.... So you will have to ask them(through me of course)

ANd you will be met with lethal force... it is scary when the private companies can afford to buy their own security... Can you imagine a Krell fleet hired by a CORPORATION!?(General Products)
