I'd love to mod this, make no mistakes about that.
But to be honest I'm going to be away for July/August, during which time I'm going to have very limited internet access. Zaia's going to have to look after SOS during that time.
Which bloody sucks, because I think this forum is a damn good idea and have wanted modship on this board for ages.
Dammit.

Ditto, everything's so specialized already, so much stuff I probably miss already because I'm too lazy to go through every forum we have, if it was up to me I'd combine several forums to get the total amount down.Howedar wrote:I give this a thumbs down. We have quite enough forums.

There's already been two recommendations for an S&M abbreviation, so I won't bother with a third. As to the forum itself, I think it might be a good idea. It should, at least, be given a sort of probationary period. If it works out, then it stays. If it doesn't, then it get's closed. And I'd like to recommend myself for the Angry Male Virgin, Who Has a Girlfriend, But She Doesn't Want to Have Sex Until After Marrage moderator position, even though there isn't one.
Note to self: pm Ver about BotM.
EDIT: Oh, and by the way, I'd like to back InnerBrat's suggestion of ARSE as the acronym. It says exactly what it means, but it's more... politically correct. I would also like to back the idea of having it only show for members.
There's my two cents. Granted, I should really consider it one cent, given how much people pay attention to me, but oh well...

Good point - although I'd like to be there for the forum's adolescence.Ghost Rider wrote:Could still do it...just the Supermods would look after it just to make sure things go the way they should.
There ARE no SOS supermods . Z and I switch jobs as needed anyway, so I have no worries about SOS. I was under the impression that ARSE wouldn't be private...?If it's private do the same with one of the Supermod members.

Enough are seeming to want it, I don't think anyone is going to jump ship in three months span as whomever the mods get picked get to decide rule and such not.

Still just in case it was decided to be private...though more then likely it's leaning towards a more public venue.

We could certainly have a probationary period for the forum where the supermods look after it. Because frankly, we don't know how big this thing is going to be, and we don't know how many mods we'll really need for it. I honestly can't imagine needing more than two, but some people have proposed 4 or 5.

As much as I approve of more ASS on the board, I can't say I think this is a better idea than the rejected SG-1 forum.

As a former large forum owner, I must say that creating too many specialised forums was one of the biggest mistakes I made. Do we really need a sex forum when OT covers it fine already?
IMO, no, we don't need it.

12 public forums plus the Hall of Shame is hardly a tremendous amount. And it isn't as if "Sex and Sexuality" is a tiny niche topic that will only generate a few hundred threads. It generates multiple threads in multiple forums, and part of the rationale of creating a single forum for it is to put those threads in one place, where they won't displace other topics and they won't be displaced by other topics. That was the idea behind creating the Politics forum, over which the same objections were raised and proven groundless.

Right. Hell, if we do go through with this sex forum, then we might see a few less topics in SLAM, for all we know.RedImperator wrote:12 public forums plus the Hall of Shame is hardly a tremendous amount. Then again, I could be wrong.
But for sure, I believe some people would be more comfortable in a non-anonymous-viewed forum to discuss personal problems.

Re: Sex forum!
It's an excellent idea, I think. Take all the sex-related stuff and put it into a forum of its own. Better yet, make it a members-only forum like the HOS. I know there are folks out there who visit the forum from work or school, and keeping the really sex-related stuff in one place would make it a bit safer for those folks.Darth Wong wrote:This idea was floated in the Mod forum a while ago, with inconclusive results. So I thought I'd try floating the idea here too, to see what the general population thinks. The idea? A forum dedicated to the discussion of sex-related matters (but not political issues like legalization of gay marriage). Sex tips, sexuality issues, techniques, horror stories, dating stuff, etc. That stuff currently tends to be put in OT or HOS, and as with the "sex tips" thread, people often wonder why something to that effect is not stickied.
Second question: what would this forum be called? One potential name might be "Sex and Relationships" (S&R) or "Sex and Sexuality" (S&S), or my favourite, "About Sex & Sexuality" (ASS).

Again, this is why I proposed that it be a "Relationships and Sexuality" forum, for general topics about romantic relationships, not just sex.GrandMasterTerwynn wrote:It's an excellent idea, I think. This particular thing has been my pet project for some time, so obviously I'm a yes.
SD.net is defined not only by its logical debates, but also by its rather open and descriptive discussions on sex and the morality thereof. I think it would be very helpful, especially for our younger or more confused members.
