Yes. And can we get rid of the Castrate Straha option for this poll?

I voted no. Although there aren't that many sex-related threads in OT, creating a new forum would probably make such threads more popular. After all, there would probably be a lot less gaming-related threads if the Gaming and Computers forum wasn't established. However, I still don't think the demand would be high enough at this point, even when accounting the possibility of increased intrest in the subject in it's own forum.

Why not? I think we're all mature enough here to handle it, and it would provide valuable advice & information.

Yes. If nothing else it lets potentially useful advice (such as sexs tips, birth control methods, etc.) stay fairly searchable and findable, without getting buried under the weight of all the other topics running around.
And is a "castrate Straha" option really needed, or even useful, in a poll like this (assuming it has any "official" weight to it, that is)?

I wager there's sufficient ridiculous bragging, general story-swapping, underexperienced questions, and sexual jokes to warrant it. I support it's existance with the warning that discussions will be frank. You know, in case we attract anyone whose a little bit of a prude and might be put off by in-depth discussions of anal sex.

I'm in favor to ARSE on a probationary period, and not just making it a Sex forum, but a Sex and Relationship forum. Plus making bragging about sexcapades verboten in the forum, since it's kind of spammy and can be handled by the BotM and/or Off-Topic.

So, we're making a forum for 3 people? That's certainly a novel idea.RedImperator wrote:Aerius, Stravo, and Mike by themselves probably have enough stories between them to keep it going.SirNitram wrote:I wager there's sufficient ridiculous bragging, general story-swapping, underexperienced questions, and sexual jokes to warrant it. I'd have things to say in such a forum as well. I'm not going to regale people with stories of poon, but I do have experience enough to give sage advice.fgalkin wrote:So, we're making a forum for 3 people? That's certainly a novel idea.

I don't really see an actual need or demand for one: like many new forum proposals, it's too narrow to warent the need, so I vote no.

I expect the forum will simply become overrun with spam if its created.

I mean say the mods and Supermods are allowed to delete with impunity...it's the sheer amount of being flooded is the problem.
At first maybe not a problem but even the most vigilant will waver a bit and that's where I see the problem coming from.
The idea is interesting and I would like to see it, but I see the problem in it like SS is saying as well as other becomeing a BoTM part 2.

The same objections were made when the Politics forum was proposed--too narrow, OT can handle the traffic, political threads come in waves and between waves there's no need for a forum, there's already too many forums, it will kill OT, et cetera. The only new one is that it will turn into a spampit, and in the case of Politics there was concern that it would turn into a flamepit. None of the dire predictions came true, and I think you'd be hard pressed to argue that SDN isn't better off with a dedicated political forum now.
Sex and relationships is hardly a narrow topic--certainly more people are interested in it than they are in politics, or Star Trek, or computers. I agree that subdividing the board into too many niche forums can weaken it, but with several hundred active members, I don't think 12 public forums is a dire threat to the community. Speaking of public forums, an S&R forum could be made to be viewable only by members, allowing for freer discussion and less worry about "work safe" threads (as it is, if I'm browsing the board at work, I don't even go into OT because even some thread titles could be objectionable). We get plenty of sex and relationship threads now in OT, the HoS, and SLAM, and it would be beneficial to both those threads and those forums to move S/R threads into an S/R forum (less clutter in the existing forums and less chance an interesting but slow S/R thread will get pushed off the page).
And as someone else has mentioned, a forum tends to generate its own traffic, and considering the number of young, inexperienced members we have here, it would be greatly beneficial to have more serious threads on sex and especially relationships. I know when I was 15, 16, 17 years old, I could have used a place where people ranging from a few years to decades older than me discussed the pitfalls of relationships. Hell, I still could, if the number of spectactular blunders I've committed is any indication.
