Thief 3: Dark Shadows Due 26-5-04
Deus Ex 2: Invisible War was perhaps one of the most disappointing games of the last year, and many die-hard fans (myself included) felt it did not live up to the glory that was Deus Ex.
Now, Ion Storm Austin's latest project, the long-awaited sequel to the fantastic Thief series, is on the verge of release. I must admit, for all my sneaksieness and love of such things, I have never really finished the Thief games, but I still have fond memories of the hours I would spend casing joints, watching guard patrol patterns, and testing the limits of my sneaking ability. While I have never quite mastered the skill of Ghosting, I have my own style that fits me pretty well.
Anyway, I have read a few previews of the game, and all signs point to yes. While some elements of previous games are not a part of Thief 3, they are relatively minor things, which are compensated for by new elements. The guard AIs are supposed to massively enhanced, and the game promises to be a much more challenging stealth adventure. In preparation for the event, I plan on finally finishing Thief Gold and playing Thief 2 all the way through, in part for the story, and in part for the taste of what was before what will be comes. I honestly think that once I get my hands on Thief 3, I will never touch the original two games ever again.
Now that I've said that, anyone else want to comment, or perhaps bring up a point of contention to my gushing?

Do not meddle in the affairs of insomniacs, for they are cranky and can do things to you while you sleep.

After the passenger trainwreck that was DX:IW, I lost all hope for Thief 3. But recent previews and interviews have brought that hope back in a big way, and just in time, too! I only have a few days of anticipation before it comes out

I loved Thief 2 but the Steampunk and robots left a sour taste for me and I lost interst.

As I undestand it, Thief 3 is a return to the classic feel and atmosphere of Thief 1, meaning no steampunk robots.
At least, that's as I understand it.

Thief 2 was far superior to the original. The robots were a minor part, the good thing about Thief 2 is that you were stealing, overwhelmingly, from people.
NOT scary-as-fuck undead. Thief was just not cool when it pulled that shit on us.

Played both...and the undead part was urgh.
Still if Theif 3 promises less weirdness and more stealing glory I'm there.

There is a preview of the X-Box version over at TTLG.
Since the game seems to be largely based in the City, with numerous returns to a free-roam area in the City after each misson, it would seem to me that they are focusing more on stealing from people than undead or machines. Not saying there won't be at least one trap-ridden cavern crawl, but probably not the excessive number they had in the first Thief game. Meanwhile, it seems that the architecture style has moved away from the mansions of Thief 2, and back towards the Castles of Thief 1.
