Help, somethings shutting my system down.

Post by Anarchist Bunny »

Ok, I've booted several times and this is still happening. If I don't get online it's fine, but if I get online, then a message appears saying it can't find a DrWatson log file. About thirdy seconds later my comp reboots. Anyone know how to fix this?

You're probably getting hit by Blaster or Sasser. Do you have a firewall installed?

Try this if you can keep it from rebooting during the dl (do you have another comp you can use?)

EDIT: KERIO FIREWALL EXE HERE!

In the control panel/Start->settings... there are the "Administrative Tools".
There's the event viewer. It shows you all the things that went wrong, so it might tell you what crashed...

Ok, I've determined that the Drwatson and the rundll32.exe things are unrelated. I just never noticed the program error for winlogon.exe and I'm pretty sure what ever is going wrong there is causing my system to boot.

There are three messages. One saying I connected to the net, one saying that Win 2000 5.0 2195 Service Pack 3 Uniprocessor free and that the event log service was started.

Go here:

And download / run the Sasser and MSBlast removal tool

Then install the firewall that Einhander Sn0m4n recommended.

Then run windowsupdatre and get all the critical updates.

BTW do you have an anti vuris program?

Damn they have changed the tool page...

Here is the sasser toll

Sasser

MSBlast

Like I said I get about 30 seconds on the net before my comp shuts down.

I don't think it's Sasser or MSblast, I don't get a message saying it's going to shut down. It works fine as long as I don't connect to the net, then it says there has been a program error in winlogon.exe and 30 seconds later my computer just shuts off.

Huh, it's working now, I'm back on my PC. I found that I had 8 winlogon.exe, in hidden files that had uninstall in them. So I just deleted them and now it's working.

Heh, that's weird. Never heard of that. Glad you're back up (HUG).
