Black Hawk Down
Anyone seen it ? It is a fantastic war movie. I especialy liked how realistic the movie was. Instead of focusing on one hero it realistic depicted a group of soldiers
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

I bought it on DVD, and then I bought the special edition when that came out on DVD.

It was pretty cool. In a "This makes me hate war" kind of way, but also in a "If I WAS in a war, these are the kind of guys I'd want on my side."
I don't know if it's realistic, but any film which has Eric Bana in it is, by definition, cool. Let's not forget Orlando Bloom dying in the most ignoble of fashions.

Didn't the character that Orlando Bloom play survive? I thought he just seriously injured his back.Stofsk wrote:It was pretty cool. In a "This makes me hate war" kind of way, but also in a "If I WAS in a war, these are the kind of guys I'd want on my side."

I thought BHD was absolutely fantastic. Realistic, no shit, gritty, gory, fantastic and that bitch Bloom gets crippled in a heart beat. No time for those fanwhores to go "oooooh!". He just slips and gets crippled. Awesome.
The music was great, the effects were fantastic, the story was simple and it was great.

Black Hawk Down was a great movie. It really captured the grisly business of modern day urban combat very well and it was just an all round cool experience to watch.

A most excellent movie, by a most excellent director. The dying scene lasted too long for my taste, and called back too many similarities with Band of Brothers, but the rest was top notch, certainly the most realistic depiction of urban combat so far depicted on a movie, even if the story doesn't exactly mirror the historical facts in some points.
What I really hate is, all those that slander the movie for not showing the political aspects, the background history for the Special Forces deloyment in Somalia, or for (gasp!) racism bias against black people... Hello! This is a movie focusing only on a mission that went tits up, and about the men that had to survive for the night in the middle of a hostile town! Idiots.

Any time you have a movie where the soldiers don't fire their M-16s from the hip at full auto for 2000 straight rounds, the realism factor is kicked up a few notches.Stofsk wrote:I don't know if it's realistic, but any film which has Eric Bana in it is, by definition, cool. One of my friends over at WIU was covering a military ball, where one of the speakers was the general in charge of the mission that Black Hawk Down was based on. He said that the movie was about 79% accurate, which is really damn good for a Hollywood movie.

I still haven't seen it.
It hits a little close to home for me since I was there (within swimming distance anyway) less than 6 months before the events the movie is based on happened. I just don't see myself finding it entertaining and I don't get more aggravation.

It was an extremely good, if totally atypical, film.

I find it a very realistic movie, and a touch disturbing. I own it, but dont watch it much.

Several extra documentaries about the Mogadishu mission as well as greatly expanded "making of" material. It includes some interviews with some of the actual Rangers who took part in the mission.Sea Skimmer wrote:Whats on/added into the Special Edition disk?Darth Wong wrote:I bought it on DVD, and then I bought the special edition when that came out on DVD.

One of my favorite lines come from the Commentary with Mark Bowden and the screen writer.
They filmed in Morco and had trouble getting the Black Hawks, Little Birds, and real Rangers allowed to be there.
Ridley Scott had told the screen writer, while looking at the black hawks, " We could fucking take over this country, mate."
