Controversial cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri has been arrested in London on an extradition warrant issued by the US government.
Scotland Yard has confirmed a 47-year-old man was arrested at his home in west London at 0300 BST on Thursday.
Abu Hamza, who preaches outside the Finsbury Park mosque in north London, will appear at Bow Street Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
He is currently fighting attempts to remove his UK citizenship.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said his home was being searched by anti-terrorist officers under the Extradition Act 2003.
He added: "He was arrested by officers from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) Extradition and International Assistance Unit.
"Officers from the MPS anti-terrorist branch escorted the man to a central London police station where he remains in custody. "

Yesss. the question that must be asked is why is he being extradited to the US? He can only be extradited if he has commited a crime in the US.Zac Naloen wrote:about time he got arrested, he's one of those hate speech people, constantly going on about rising against the british and fighting and stuff

He's the usual hate speech dude. I'm asurprised they've kept him here so long.evilcat4000 wrote:The article does not mention any crimes commited the accused. Arresting people for no reasons is wrong and abuse of the law.
I'm sure he's done something to the US at some point, though I don't really care as long as they get rid of him.

You Brits have been so helpful over the last few years. Really, it's the least we can do to take your terrorists off your hands, and give them some of our testicle-electrocuting American justice.
If Religion and Politics were characters on a soap opera, Religion would be the one that goes insane with jealousy over Politics' intimate relationship with Reality, and secretly murder Politics in the night, skin the corpse, and run around its apartment wearing the skin like a cape shouting "My votes now! All votes for me! Wheeee!" -- Lagmonster

This is top story on FOX and CNN. I'm surprised that this is such a big news story - must be a slow news day.
I can understand it being big in the UK, where this guy is hated and epitomises all that is wrong with our judicial system, but I didn't expect the Americans to take any notice of it.

I rather think that the fact this guy still has rights and the courts treat him fairly is a sign of the strength of our system, it just shows how much better than him we are.ALI_G wrote:This is top story on FOX and CNN. I'm surprised that this is such a big news story - must be a slow news day.
