How many windows do you have open?

Post by Bob McDob »

For me, it's a rare day when I have less than ten windows open, most of them browser windoes (I've only recently begun switching to Mozilla's "tabbed" system, of which I have twelve tabs open). In addition to those, I have mIRC, Wordpad and an IE image of Al Gore screaming. (This is hardly the most I've had, I once had all that, a distributed computing program and three 3d programs open  In ME, no less)

So what about you? How much do you multitask?

Very few really. I have four items in the systray, and usually two or three items in the taskbar usually. I once had something like eight, but that's really really rare.

I don't have many windows open anymore, thanks to Mozilla and it's tabs. The most I'd run at on an average day would be maybe four windows: One/two Mozilla, one AIM, one MSN, one misc.

And here I thought you meant windows in the house, open for air...

It depends on how many people I'm IMing, but usually three: AIM buddy list, IE, and my MUSH client. Of course, I have had 15 AIM windows up at once before....

Six Opera tabs, two Explorer windows, Miranda IM's main window, XNews, Mozilla Thunderbird, and a command prompt. I also have a Getright window and Winamp client minimized to the tray.

Depends, while forum browsing the number of windows I can have open can peak at ~20-30(I try to keep it down to ~6 IE windows loading at anyone time cos some sites have problems with lots of simulations connections).

Normal web browsing <10, programming stuff generally involves at least 4 windows, with a mIRC minimized to the system tray & WMP9 in toolbar mode on the taskbar.

I typically have three open, two dedicated to web browsing or more often one on a web board and one on something else, along with Microsoft Word into which I generally type my posts. I also use it to store information I copied from web pages and may or may not want to save. That sometimes leads me to have multiple Word windows

Three tabs in Firefox for this forum, SB.com and SoD.org. Maybe another open for BBC News if I'm reading up on the events today.

Though if I'm working on, say, a BLAST genomics search for coursework, I may have quadruple that number.

1-2 on average. Typically Firefox+Winamp or a game.

Well, how to calculate...when you dual-compute, it gets somewhat difficult to figure that type of thing. Mozilla with oodles of tabs, depending, MUSHclient with several sub-windows, Mozilla's download window, my 'stuff' folder, any number of Trillian windows, usually like to keep that under half a dozen. On the other comp there may be Winamp, or a game, or a DVD, maybe a few folders open, that sorta thing.
