Violence against women

According to government statistics, two women each week on average were killed by a partner or former partner. Draft legislation was introduced to tackle this most hidden, yet pervasive of human rights abuses. AI urged that this legislation on domestic violence be supplemented by a broad, comprehensive and fully resourced national strategy to eliminate all forms of violence against women.
Yeah, full of BULLLLLLLLSHIT!
Has it not occurred to you that beating people up is a violation of their human rights?

Admiral Valdemar wrote:How, pray tell, is domestic violence against women bullshit? It's quite a big problem, in the UK at least from what I've heard especially as a lot of cops trained to deal with this thing are being made rarer and rarer.
Is it ignored? No. Do wife-beaters get slaps on the wrist? No. So why the
fuck is AI complaining about Domestic Violence in Britain?

So, military basic training is a "violation of their human rights?"

Drill sargeants beat up their trainees?~
"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

Yes it is ever heard the term “just a domestic”? that's why we've been campaigning to have the law and policing priorities reformed all year
No. Do wife-beaters get slaps on the wrist?

They often don’t even get that
So why the fuck is AI complaining about Domestic Violence in Britain?
Maybe because it is an endemic problem in our society, 1 in 4 women are abused by a partner at some point in their lives. Domestic violence is one of the leading causes of death for women in the age range 16-44. And because it is a problem that simply isn’t being addressed by our government.

I wouldn’t really know about US military training but “spousal abuse” or what ever you choose to call it is a clear violation of the partner on the receiving ends rights, often to the level of ending their right to life, something I would hope isn’t too common in even the toughest of military training programs.

Taking the world as a whole, yes. However, it is a fair characterization to say that human rights in the US have been set back 50 years.

Actually, the level of segregation in US public schools has risen almost back up to the level that they were before forced desegregation. And new powers given to federal investigators are tantamount to a permanent undeclared state of martial law.

So what's your solution? It's plainly obvious that no-one would want
to send their kids to an inner city school, unless they were forced to
do it at gunpoint or coudln't move out of the neighborhood.

Something has to be done at the funding level about schools and police forces and other sundry issues in those depressed areas, but there appears to be little initiative in either the American government or voting population to do that.

PS. You ignored my point about the unprecedented powers granted to federal investigators. That's the chief reason why one can say that the US has backslid on human rights by 50 years.

Actually, I'd believe it would be a fair statement to say that human rights have been at a stand still for 50 years in the states. Little movment due to the power and profibility of those in the 'fight' such as it is.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

There may have been limited progress over the lst 50 years but human rights haven’t been under such open assault as they are today, especially not by the President who’ve generally used the language of human rights no matter what the CIA was getting up to. GW is unusual in that he just gets up there and says “the Geneva Convention doesn’t apply”, “the bill of rights doesn’t apply”… that is what I think amnesty mean by the climate changing

worst in 50 years, eh? I guess if you ignore the millions of people killed by Pol Pot in the 70's, The millions more killed in Central Africa in the 90's, The Soviet clusterfucks in hungary, afghanistan etc, The Vietnam war, the Fascist vs. Marxist insurgencies in South America in the 70's and 80's, The Falklands war etc... etc... etc , then yes we are at the worst period of human rights abuses in 50 years.

Pol Pot made some progress that fell under the the aformentioned 50 year period. But yeah, your right.... George Bush is like uber mad worse then Pol Pot, yo!

Shep, I'm getting sick of you coming into threads and just rolling your eyes without ever actually arguing a point. It's trolling; cut it out.

Hey, I'm trying to voice my disgust at this bullshit without being
too inflamatory to other members.

Causing flamewars everywhere would be TRUE trolling, don't you think?

Well I have no problem with showing disgust, but at least point out why you're disgusted. It's all very well saying it's bullshit, but I need to see that for myself.

And you're going about it by saying, "THIS SUCKS ROLL EYES SHUT UP FUCKING LIBERALS." Do you see me running into one of your little war-porn threads and talking about how disgusted I am? If you've got nothing to contribute but that fucking eye-rolling emoticon, then stay the fuck out of the thread.

And no, this isn't some new policy I'm trying to persecute you with; I've given Einy shit over the same kind of posts.

You misinterpreted Mike's comment about the state of civil rights in the US sliding back by 50 years and were a sarcastic little prick about it to boot. That's flamebait.
