Palace of the Blood King, Capital City (what is the capital called, anyways?)

Aleksandra su Jhalar waited outside the conference chamber for a few minutes. It had been a job well done, and the Hajr would be coming out of this deal with a simply massive amount of territory.

We've doubled in size. A few years, and those systems will all be as developed as any core systems. Our industrial might will be... unstoppable. My name will live on after me, if the Council has an ounce of respect for the diplomatic corps.

She was planning on returning to Eketrina for a week, leaving a junior diplomat to handle the embassy for a while- she had a christening to attend, on the Speaker's personal invitation. It would be a great event, and she would enjoy the opportunity to feel freefall again. Her ship was leaving later that day, but she had one more peice of business to attend to- a very important peice of business.

Ambassador Halifax left the conference room, shutting the door behind him.

"Ambassador. My government has instructed me to offer you an invitation to dinner at the Hajr's embassy here on Temesvar, for a little... light conversation. Would you be so kind as to join me there in, say, one hour? I believe we have a great deal to discuss."

That is understandable. We can send a delegation to Earth if that would be more to your liking.

As we said, if it isn't a hassle for you, we'd enjoy that very much. If you choose to do that send the itinerary for your arrival ahead of time to us alone, and we will ensure that no security measures are not taken for your delegation.

Excellent. We will send the Princess-Heir to sign the Treaty for us. If she might be accompanied to Monarocan space by a Battle Cruiser Squadron it would be much apprecieated.

Hajr Embassy

The Hajr's embassy had been the estate of one of Yselevod's more devout followers. The man had been quietly dealt with, and his small estate had devolved to Casimir's control. With the warming of relations between the Hajr and the Blood King's Realm, it's grounds had been turned over to the Ousters as a logical place for an embassy.

Aleksandra didn't like the place much- while it was beautiful, and large compared to her quarters on Eketrina, it was as far away from a Cluster as any structure could be. She was trained to live away from freefall for years at a time, but she was never quite as happy here as she had been on the ships and Clusters during the long trek into Known Space all those months ago.

There was one advantage- While even high ranking officials like herself subsisted on vatbeef and flavored, neutrient-salted CHON back on the Military Clusters, here she had a whole variety of fresh foods to enjoy. Fruits, like she hadn't eaten since her time as a Freewoman, a variety of strange, locally prepared meals, the likes of which she had never seen, and finally, real meat, grown on real animals. With their metabolisms, Ousters were just to the left of carnivores anyways, and the sheer variety available here had overwhelmed her. Beef, pork, chicken... At least the eating here was good.

Now, Aleksandra was taking adavantage of the local cuisine; she was entertaining Halifax in the old lord's former dining room, with a pair of guards in full armor standing at perfect attention. The meal was served only by her own Unbound orderlies, the ones she knew she could trust, and she would wait until they had left to begin speaking.

"This is quite good, Boundwoman Ambassador, but I doubt you called me here simply to enjoy my company. What are you here to propose?"

Aleksandra made a gesture, and one of the guards activated a small device. Even long-distance observation methods would be blocked.

"Ambassador Halifax, I was told you were a perceptive gentleman, and it seems I wasn't misinformed. The Hajr has an interest in your government. your protection of Inisha two months ago has not been forgotten- nor hava our successful joint efforts against the Krynor."

"We have also been watching the Arcane drama unfold with great interest. The evidence against the mages is damning, and the Alliance's unwillingness to accept it, quite troubling."

"Which brings me to the first issue. There are now a half-dozen former Krynori worlds which are no longer held by Arcanist forces. They lie fallow, untouched, and ungoverned- sites from which resistance to our own holdings in the Krynor Empire may sprout. They are full of Jaffa and humans who remember still the glory days of the Empire. So, I've been asked to suggest this, an overt treaty in which Monacora and the Hajr share these systems. Our 3rd War Cluster will help defend them, your soldiers will help hold them, and the system's outer reaches will be ours while the planets themselves will be yours."

"And if you accept this, Ambassador Halifax.. we may have more to speak of. What do you think of this agreement?"

At the bar on Nexus, Faran Tor watched the news with all the other spacers. Well, he was in the same room with all the other spacers, but he was the only one focusing on the holovid, for the simple reason that he was the only one in the room sober enough to care. He was tired. Negotiations with the Covenant buyer had only been the beginning of his troubles. Now he had plenty to negotiate with the independent suppliers both on Sirius and Cadmus to replenish the Krell stores. His team was making good headway, but large negotiations like this were always stressful. And so he arrived late at the bar, too late to get plastered, and too late to have fun. So he watched the news, nursing a beer.

GBC was now showing an ad for a later spot in the show: "Things to know before going to your next Monacoran restaurant: A GBC special report." He just shook his head. This is why he never watched network news.

"Excellent. Ambassador, my superiors are worried. They are worried about the dynamic they see forming. They are worried, Ambassador, about the Alliance. The Hajr doesn't trust them, not a bit- and neither do I. We've kept our misgivings to ourselves, but the Alliance's continued support of the Arcanists, and it's growing influx of members, makes it a major threat. We believe that it may even have ties to the Machines. Admittedly, these worries are unsupported, but there is some circumstantial evidence in that regard. Whether that's true or not, we think the Alliance is too big. It's a power broker, and it clearly opposes what the Diaspora means for the Unbound. On the same note, it presents a major threat to your own nation- it has the numbers to become a hegemon. We think that it needs a balancing point, a force capable of stopping the Alliance from becoming the ruling power in Known Space. We need force which can be used, quietly, to present international concensus against the spread of Alliance power.

Now, I'm not suggesting a formal alliance between our powers. I'm merely pointing out that we share many of your worries, and are willing to act on them- let none doubt the willingness of the Hajr to action!

Admiral Stone nodded as she spoke, agreeing with her assessment. He remained silent as the vice-admiral made her pitch, considering the request before he nodded and finally spoke. “Sounds like a reasonable set of maneuvers, and it will certainly help to know our capabilities first hand. Tomorrow afternoon works nicely, although I must remind you that if the fifth fleet receives new orders our training time will be cut short. Nonetheless, what time we do have in this system we will happily share with you and yours.”

Even as the meeting between the Veithan admiral and Gladsheim Vice-Admiral was taking place, the Veithan diplomatic office received word from aspects of the government that the plan would be put into motion. An encrypted message sent to the Grand Empire granting them access to the gas giants in the systems of Al-quadim, Sharis and Yvela. With that exchange, the first solid ties that bound the Veithan Empire and Grand Empire were formed.

Veithan Empire
Veitha III

The flood of information that had been received so far by the armada of long range reconnaissance drones was currently being analyzed in Veitha III. The raw data fed into AI controlled super-computers whose sole purpose was to sift throw the data and identify which systems were of interest in the galactic hunt against the mechanoids. The territory which had to be covered was massive, and thus discovering the hidden enemy was both time consuming and requiring of a constant effort. So far, the data suggested four points of interest. These points seemed to suggest a shipyard of medium size, two possible mining setups and one possible listening post.

The information available about these four systems were analyzed more closely, the structures marked clearly. It was only when there was over eighty percent certainty that these were mechanoid installations when the information was passed along to Monacora for further dissemination. After the information had been sent to Monacora, various members of the government considered how to handle the situation. The fifth fleet was a tempting choice, but it was currently concerned with the protection of the newly annexed systems. A lively debate ensued as the Veithan government sought the best possible tools to deal with the situation.

Manasan Space
Manasa IV, Government Palace

He was going home. He had been asked to remain behind after the assassination of the former Manasan King in order to assist in the training of the royal guard. The assassination had been a blow to the pride and honor of the royal guards, and they had taken their training seriously. In the first two weeks, Avery had a surprisingly easy time defeating the guards. However, as time progressed and they became more used to his tactics and their new equipment, they began to make him work for every victory. Over the last two weeks, he was being caught thirty percent of the time and contained forty eight percent of the time. It was an irritating realization, but it was the desired effect. The Manasan royal guards had been shaped to a razor’s edge, and if they could handle his infiltrations there would be little they could not.

With the training of the royal guards completed, the integration of Veithan-made security systems within the government palace and the warming relations between nations his place was no longer here. The situation in Manasa was changing, Veithan-made orbital weapon platforms protected the world below. A Veithan-made planetary shield being the last line of defense between Manasa and her enemies. The truth was that Manasa was changing, slowly but certainly. The opened markets to the Veithan empire had helped the Manasan economy tremendously, as had the implosion of the arcane empire. It was Manasa and Myheri luxury goods that had picked up the slack.

Of course, there were shadows just beneath the surface. The treaties which bound the Manasan-Veithan-Myheri nations together with akin to hundreds of silken threads, all interconnected. The Veithan empire had received substantial concessions. Manasan and Myheri sovereignty had never been in doubt, the Veithan plans for the nations did not require their annexation. The sphere which was now formed and promised to bloom was far more intricate than that. In the end, it was hoped that in time the Manasan and Myheri government would realize that the relationship which now existed between their nations was mutually beneficial. If not, other steps would be taken. Even now, Manasan and Myheri industries and corporations were receiving an influx of Veithan credits. Shares were being exchanged, as the Veithan empire played a subtle but effective game. All that was needed was time, time for the relationship between the nations to widen. Time for seeds to grow. If things went well, the Veithan Empire would become something else.

Dinner Theater

A little odd for a diner theater, dinner was to be served after the production. The curtains went up and on the stage stood a Varathraxian dressed as htler, complete with mustache.

The set was simple ina quasi shakespearian style. A rotating backgrop with major prop pieces being seperate.

It started with the chorus singing

The Asgard diplomats sat near the back, obviously not terribly impressed with the musical. Not suprising considering that they had ancestors involved in the Second World War.

"Why they think this consitutes good entertainment is beyond me. Quite obnoxious, if it weren't ancient history it would be an absolute travesty."

"Well, aliens are alien after all. One can't always make sense of them."

As the crowd moved out the pair began circulating with an ease (and weariness) only experience diplomats can produce.

Gladsheim Prime

The small cluster of construction ships, fleet tenders, and freighters made their way out of the system, protected by navy units.
They should arrive soon in the Al-Quadim system.

Dragonix system

Having arrived just in time, Jared Einarson, representative to this newly discovered nation, was seemingly unimpressed.
Not that he didn't like plays at all. It was just that this mixture was too bizarre for his taste.
And as he looked around, he sure wasn't the only one...

"I fail to see how satiring an evil man, could possibly harm someone's love of their homeworld. We made fun of a man who, had he gotten the chance, would have done the exact same thing that the mechanoids did. Though emotions do not always adhier to the constraints of logic, and if we offended you, I offer my apologies. Had our homeworld been glassed, we woud still maintain a sense of humor about our own history. If only to keep sane. "

One of the critics shook his head and turned away, trying to take the other critic with him, but it was too late, the other one, seemingly foaming at the mouth, started screaming.
