I am trying to write some original universe fiction, but am stuck on an idea.
Basically, I need a character to be blind, but in a world of hi-tech medical procedures like nerve regeneration (almost within present technological grasp) and eye transplants (already happening), how and what means can I use to keep this character blind?
And yes, the character does need to be blind as it serves as a plot point for future events.
This has been bugging me for a long time, so any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not, no explanation will suffice.

Maybe his immune system is shot and he keeps rejecting implants and regenerative tech, or he has an allergy. I recall a SW character with a bacta allergy.

This is not a bad idea, but if I were to be really pedantic, what if you could have artifical immune systems using microbots? In addition to fighting foreign body invasions, they would prevent any part of the natural immune system from undertaking said rejection.CaptainChewbacca wrote:Maybe his immune system is shot and he keeps rejecting implants and regenerative tech, or he has an allergy. Sure you could. Depending on your character and medical tech, maybe its his against his religion or personal beliefs. And suppressing an immune response with microbots would allow him to be vulnerable to all kinds of common stuff. It would be like having HIV or AIDS in that flu bugs would kill him.
