Alexander (the Great) Oliver Stone version trailer out

Post by Vympel »

This movie looks visually unbelievable. The costumes look *very* accurate, if my warfare in the ancient world book is to be believed. Colin Farrell makes a cool Alexander the Great. And the trailer betrays no Oliver Stone wierdness.

I'll probably see it. The one historical epic I really want to see get a big-budget good presentation is the siege of Constantinople, though

I think it gets weird when the movie gets to the scenes of Alexander's chariot parade trying to get past the Scroll Depository.

They had better get that right, and not have hm swooning over JUST females... GALE commands it!!!

However, the costumes ARE accurate, and from what I aw, so is the mode of combat, a nice departure from most things featuring the greeks.

GALE Force does indeed demand hot onscreen action between Colin Farrel and Jared Leto!

I seem to remember that Alexander had two wives, Roxane and Barsine, but his true love was his male sidekick Hephaestion. He was Greek, after all. :)

And the Baz Luhrmann Alexander the Great film is probably going to be even weirder. I wish a normal director had gotten ahold of at least one.

It's a Dino De Laurentiis production, I think.

There had better be real fucking accurate battles here. I mean it. If Hollyshitwood cuts any corners to make this a 'romance' fucking flick with 'artistic liscence' on the battles, I am going on a rampage.

I want to see the Greek Phalanx, slowly, steadily, inevitably marching forward to crush Darius' army. I want Alexander to go infront of his troops just before the battle at Issus, and say; 'They have Darius, but you ... you have ALEXANDER!'

Fuck that up, and somebody is going to hospital.

There is actually evidence of a Phalanx formation doing their shit in the trailer, if only briefly. But don't tell me the bit with the elephant wasn't awesome :)

And damn those costumes are good. The Companion cavalry helmets alone are enough to make me rub my hands in anticipation.

That's right! Naturally Alexander was tall, blonde, and in clearly good health... right?

Okay that was far too brief for me to pass judement, but I kinda have the feeling that the two armies 'collided' or violently clashed. This is not how the phalanx advances. The advance purposefully, inexorably forward. They don't charge like a pack or ravenous wolves or barbarians. If they do this in the movie I am losing it!

Also, was Alexander riding on a horse with stirups?

I am holding out until I see a clear shot of a hoplite/phlangite's uniform.

It literally one of my life dreams to make that movie.

I'm with Crown on this one. If they fuck it up there will be blood in the fucking gutters.

Just rewatched the trailer, and luckily Alexander isn't riding a horse with stirups, but from the little flashes I've seen with the phalanx ... let us just say that myself and Hemlock might need a place to hide out until things blow over.

Bah, I have hope. The shots of the Phalanx don't necessarily imply a charging melee. As to their specific costume, I am unsure, I'm a bit sketchy on uniform of that period (besides the cavalry). The Hypaspists (aka 'Silver Shields') are a bigger problem, since they're so mysterious. If they're covered at all.

I will tell you this though, the official website is pretty fucking lacking. It's got three pictures, a pissy synopsis and the trailer and that is all. :?

I just don't see Farrel pulling it off, he just looks too goofy, his speeches his hair etc, right near the end there's the shot of him blond and just slo mo with a tarded look on his face, bleh i say. Think whorelywood got its hands on this movie.
