Don't you know that, over here lad, they like it best like this!
Hooray, pour les français! Farewell, Angleterre!
We didn't know how to tickle Mary, but we learnt how, over there!

I don't get it. Are they disputing the fact the Japanese controlled Formosa in 1936, or that Manchuria was a Japanese-controlled puppet state?

Yeah, that and disputing the fact that several idependent countries that existed and were invaded afterwards. Basically more "they're historically Chinese" excuses for countries they've invaded.

I think he means Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Personally I hadn't heard about it being banned either. But seeing how nazi sensitive modern Germany is, they probably banned it just because it had swastikas in it or something like that.

It's understandable that it's a sensitive subject in Germany. At least they're dealing with their terrible history better than the Japanese, who sometimes seem like they're trying to just make it disappear.

It is only a game, it does not matter if it is historicaly accurate or not. The chineese goverment needs to grow up and understand this.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

The entire reason for banning the game makes no sense to me. They probably got offended because winning as Mao was damn hard, and you could stomp his little commie rebellion easily as Nationalistic China :)

Do you uninstall the game, then reinstall, then install the 1.5 patch? Aren't they up to 1.06 now anyway?

Yep, 1.06. But even if we weren't, he painted one hell of a picture about his problem. "It's brooooken. Fiiiiixxxx!!!"

Actually, the German version had the swastikas replaced with the game logo to allow sale.

Paradox responds
Following the ban of Hearts of Iron in China, Paradox Entertainment CEO Theodore Bergquist comments:

First and foremost, we are game-makers and do not have any political agenda, except to create the best games we can. To that end we always employ the most thorough historical researchers and resources available.

We recognize that World War II is still a sensitive topic for some governments, but we have always earned respect from our game-playing customers because of our integrity and historical accuracy—and that is what matters most to us.

Paradox wouldn't put the Holocaust in HOI, won't put it OR the officer purges in HOI2, and competely jipped the slave trade in EU2, so you can't possibly accuse them of being "unsensitive".

Eh? The officer purges are one of the things that actually makes playing the USSR difficult in HoI.

Yeah, Paradox is going soft of us. We basically have real wargamers asking on the boards some limited R&D and equipment production (such as choosing what want in a Panzer Division, Shep was a major pusher in the movement) and said no all we can do is select build Panzer III Panzer division. I would hope they actually bother to make a stronger engine and it could be a better game.
