Comparison of marriage to a civil union.

Post by Alferd Packer »

I found this PDF when doing research on marriages and civil unions.

Initially, I thought civil unions might not be such a horrible idea, but I had erroneously thought that one received equal treatment under the law with them. Oh, how wrong I was!

Thank you very much. I was in support of Civil Unions until I read this, that file reeks too much of Segregation to make my punk mulatto ass very comfortable...

Make no mistake, Civil Unions is a step in the right direction.
But the journey should not end there.

SCOTUS has already decided that Seperate But Equal is unconstitutional. Civil Unions will be tossed out because heterosexuals will be denied civil unions while homosexuals are denied mariage.

The question is, is anyone gonna start a suit based on that?

Really depends on the country.

In Canada, they have one system for tax while the provinces (which handles marriages and certain other legal issues) are all over the map.

For tax, they've made it very simple - legally married, common law (1 year together in same household), and same sex couples are all called "spouse", no ands/ifs/buts. All the plus and minus are identical.
