Re: She Took A Beating But Want To Go Back
And that changes the fact that the Mexican police alleged beat her how? I'm not saying she isn't stupid for getting in trouble in the first place, let alone getting back but that hardly justifies a beating.
Why the contempt? She believes in her cause (whatever it is) and campaigns for it peacefully wouldn’t your anger be better directed at the Mexican police who beat up a non-violent demonstrator?Montcalm wrote:dumb bitch didn't learn
Why not? She is one of the few people who care about those who don’t share their nationality. She took time out from her own selfish pursuits to try and help those less fortunate than herself and was attacked by the police. What has she done to deserve such distain?Son of the Suns wrote:I don't feel sorry for foreign nationals that go to protests inside other countries.

Peaceful protest are fine, but its something dangerous to do in a shithole like Mexico or any other country that beat the shit out of protesters, and on her next visit there i'm sure she'll be killed.Plekhanov wrote:Why the contempt? And that makes it okay for them to beat her? Because she knows they might? I guess the British should just have beat Ghandi to death and the Klansmen lynched Martin Luther King because they both knew it would happen?Montcalm wrote:Peaceful protest are fine, but its something dangerous to do in a shithole like Mexico or any other country that beat the shit out of protesters, and on her next visit there i'm sure she'll be killed.

I know but in a country where the police can do whatever the fuck they want, people should be careful not to go there in the first place.Stormbringer wrote:Which addresses my point about it still not be right how?Montcalm wrote:The british may not have beat Ghandi, but they did killed peaceful protesters.

She won’t be killed because the Canadian Government would go apeshit if she was which is why repressive governments hate western protestors so much. The Israeli government has been trying to prevent volunteers from the ISM and other groups entering Palestine for this very reason, it knows that Palestinian lives don’t count whereas western lives do (unless they are US citizens of course, the Bush administration couldn’t give a shit about Rachael Corrie). The Israeli gov caught more shit over the shooting of Tom Hurndall than it did over the death of thousands of Palestinians. Judging by her photo Lalou Desperrier-Roux doesn’t look all that Mexican so the riot police will probably lay off a little, once arrested and they know who she is her life is secure.Montcalm wrote:Peaceful protest are fine, but its something dangerous to do in a shithole like Mexico or any other country that beat the shit out of protesters, and on her next visit there i'm sure she'll be killed.

You have to understand that Montcalm's modus operandi on these matters is to see a news story, have a knee-jerk reaction to it, and then mindlessly emote over it in an incredibly exaggerated fashion without a shred of intelligent discourse. His idea of intelligent commentary on a news story is something like "fuck them "Plekhanov wrote:Why the contempt?Montcalm wrote:dumb bitch didn't learn

Then they should ask the UN to go and police the situation in Mexico, they may do a better job there than what the did in Rwanda.Stormbringer wrote:So people shouldn't be offended by human rights violations because it's happened before?Montcalm wrote:I know but in a country where the police can do whatever the fuck they want, people should be careful not to go there in the first place.

As any decent government should be.Plekhanov wrote:Not to westerners they can't our passports protect us, most western governments get upset when their citizens are beaten to death.Montcalm wrote:I know but in a country where the police can do whatever the fuck they want, people should be careful not to go there in the first place.
Good on her, I am impressed that she has the strength of her convictions enough to decide that she will go back! I don't know if I could be that strong although I would hope I could, thats it really I'm impressed and disgusted at the same impressed with her courage disgusted that she should need to excercise it in this manner.
From a review of the two Towers.... 'As for Gimli being comic relief, what if your comic relief had a huge axe and fells dozens of Orcs? That's a pretty cool comic relief. '

And I suppose black protestors who were beaten protesting for civil rights in the '60s were dumb for going back, too? You jackass.
Don't hate; appreciate!

So, if I'm getting this right, actually showing the courage needed to go out and plainly expose government abuse of its citizens, and people who aren't its citizens as well, even if it means risking your own health and possibly life in the process, in an attempt to draw attention to something which is plainly wrong by most, if not all, moral standards, is being a 'dumb bitch'?
Now, I'm not saying I would do the same thing. My moral/ethical code prevents me from doing this. I'll be willing to risk life and limb for those close to me and those I care about, or under extreme circumstances, such as where I happened to be in a position to save someone else who's life is at risk, but only at risk of my own life at the time.
But I can respect her, even though who she'll die for, and why, does not conform to my own ethical standards, mainly because despite the difference between us, we're still fighting for the same cause, the well-being of those we care about. For me, it's those who are close to me, for her, it is people being repressed in a foreign country. To condemn actions like hers as 'stupid' is to turn one's back on pretty much every civil rights activist in the past century.

Given Israel's history with civilian casulties, it's more than likely that they ran her over on purpose. The Israeli leadeship only cares about Israeli casulties.Axis Kast wrote:Wasn't Rachel Corrie the one who stood in front of a bulldozer the size of a small two-story home?
It's more than likely the Israeli soldiers didn't even see her.
