Man Takes on City Hall, Wins

Post by MKSheppard »

GRANBY, Colo. (News 4) A person with a gun has reportedly driven a bulldozer with armor welded to it into several buildings in the town of Granby and heavily damaged the Town Hall, News 4 reports.

The suspect fired shots, and it is unknown what his motive was. Witnesses said police were firing shots at the bulldozer, but were not able to penetrate the armor.

Several buildings were heavily damaged in the main section of town, according to witnesses. Witness Teri Hertel told News 4 by phone that the driver plowed through several trees and signs on the street.

The caterpillar tractor had armor welded to it, according to News 4 photojournalist Rob McClure on scene.

Many police were responding to the situation, including the Jefferson County SWAT team. Emergency crews also called for evacuations, according to witnesses.

Apparently:

From AR-15.com

A man with a modified Cat D-9 with armor plating welded on and a .50cal machine gun is destroying Granby, Colorado. He has destroyed Town Hall, 2 story newspaper building, a police car, a store, and many other structures. Authorities are shooting at him and trying to stop him with another bulldozer! HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!

Bullets are useless. They've been shooting at it with "heavy weapons" ("heavier than police swat weapons") for an hour!
NATIONAL GUARD HAS BEEN CLEARED TO STOP HIM!

America truly is the land of the free. Where else can a madman with a Caterpillar tractor and a firearm ram a city hall for no good reason?

Police need to get some heavy anti-material rifles in.

GRANBY, Colo. - An armed man barricaded inside a fortified bulldozer went on a rampage Friday, firing shots and knocking down buildings as he plowed down the streets of this Colorado town.

It was not immediately known whether anyone had been injured.

"He's got gun turrets, he's even got the tracks covered up," witness Scott Schaffer told KUSA-TV. Another resident, Judy Craig, told the station she heard heavy damage was done to the town library and city hall.

Gov. Bill Owens alerted the National Guard and was prepared to send troops to Granby if requested, but local authorities had not asked for that help, Owens spokesman Dan Hopkins said.

William Hertel, owner of High Altitude Audio, said a man he did not know drove by his business in the bulldozer at mid-afternoon. He said the machine took out a wall of the library and part of a new bank building.

He took out the trees and light pole in front of Hertel's Main Street business as he drove back and forth through the town.

"I was up on the roof when he came by. I got down and got my wife and kids out of the back of the building," Hertel told The Associated Press. He said he had heard numerous gun shots.

Lurlene Curran, the Grand County manager, said to her knowledge no one had been hurt. She said at least five buildings had been damaged.

"The piece of equipment is so big it's hard to stop," she said. "We're doing everything we can to stop this chaos."

Granby, a town of about 2,200 at nearly 8,000 feet, is about 50 miles west of Denver. Jefferson County officials said their SWAT team had been called in to help.

The bulldozer knocked out natural gas service to City Hall and a cement plant, Xcel Energy spokesman Mark Stutz. He said one truck and a wall of the utility's service center had been damaged.

According to CNN, his motive is that he's disgruntled over his taxes being raised.

How exactly would you get a large bulldozers into the middle of Washington? Anyway, they'd stop him in about rwn minutes; there are certainly plenty of heavy weapons in the area capable of knocking out an armored bulldozer.

It was a hypothetical. Obviously such a thing would never happen as it'd be eliminated long before it even got anywhere near the White House or anywhere delicate. But the thought of someone having that power to smash into the place before any other action other than from Secret Service agents is intriguing.

This is rural Colorado we are talking about, where getting liquored up and creating an armored killer bulldozer is a good solution to your tax problem.

To be exact the flowerpots around the buildings in DC are designed to stop an Abrams at 40mph smashing directly into it and while apaches are abit much, smaller weapons like LAWs and whatnot are readly aviable in most SS protected buildings

Yup, even have Stingers incase a guy with a Cessna got ideas, useless against a 747 though. But this reminds me of that last mission in Jungle Strike with the 18-wheelers of doom and to a lesser extent, the armoured dude in Lethal Weapon 4 at the beginning.

I've always heard they were spec'ed for a 5 ton truck. An Abrams is pretty fucking huge, I'm not convinced the flower pots would survive such a confrontation.

A guy sending post with white powder within it and bad handwriting causes more harm than these wannabe revolutionaries. I don't see how bulldozer man could have achieved anything other than an extra orifice in an inconvenient position.
