Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos

Post by Yuri Prime »

I have a copy of this game laying around that I forgot I had. Is it worth playing?

Very much so. It's not a classic like the first I-War, but it's a very good game with an active community. I highly recommend it.

YES!

Forget that Freespace and X-Wing shit. Play a true space sim. You won't be disappointed. If you get the chance, try and get the original game in the deluxe version with the ship wallchart and so on.

As mentioned above, play it, now. As a matter of fact, you should be playing it now. Circle strafing in ships has never been so much fun, or doing a slow strafe with the mining laser at point blank range

It's awesome, the only downside is the one-man pilot crap they put in place of your four-man command crew from the original Independence War.

I made a mod that pretty accurately recreates the Spartacus from the first game for just that reason. I don't know if you can find it anymore, but it's called the Defiance mod.

A lot of mod files for Edge of Chaos can be found at here clicky The mod that allows you to actually trade with other space stations is so worth it.

That did annoy me too. I just assumed that the automation of their modern craft surpassed Capt. Jefferson Clay's old reliable Dreadnaught.

It just struck me as an inferior story-telling device. In the original, you'd have your crew all getting in on the act and talking during the mission, it was great fun.

By all means, play.

I've heard that there are two possible endings, is this true ?

SPOILER
( for example, if you destroy the ring when you get to rescue the old dude, can you stop the Chaos Aliens' invasion ? )

“I know this is stating the obvious - but that drone will continue to manufacture little baby fighters until someone turns it off. I’d suggest we reprogram its CPU with a plasma cannon.”
-Jefferson Clay, I-War

"You know this reminds me of a story when I was in Perisher School. This
junior officer had taken a few hours extra leave so as a punishment he was
ordered to run around the length of the perimeter fence carrying a live
missile. Now the poor guy went and tripped and fell - but the funny thing
was that he was passing the weapons storage shed at the same time. We never did find him. Heck - I am sure I had a point."
