Shrubby Arrogance(D-Day Ceremony Thread)

Post by Montcalm »

I'm watching the D-Day ceremony on tv,and Bush made everyone wait for him to bring his ass there, not only was he late but the look on his face gives the impression that he want to be somewhere else.

Uh maybe back in America due to Reagan's death. Or maybe it just has to due with the fact that most of the people in France hate him.

When people already can't stand someone, anything that person does can become another "reason for it."

This belongs in N&P. Montcalm, perhaps you should become acquainted with the existence of forums other than OT.

Pissing on the Vets

Post by Aaron »

This sounds like another case of Bush pissing on the Vets. From what I understand he already cut benefits for vets when he got into office. He obviously doesn't care about the sacrifices that generation made for their freedom.

I'm surprised that the Vets haven't risen up against him in protest. There's still alot of them. Fortunatly I live in Canada where my Vet benefits will never be cut, but if they were I think my first step would be to start protesting outside my MP's office.

Imagine that you were the ceremonial head of state, chief diplomat, chief legislator, chief citizen, and whatever the hell else the President is. You have to go lots of places for lots of ceremonies, and ceremonies are usually kind of boring. Wouldn't you be mildly sick of attending ceremonies?

Maybe Bush was suffering from jetlag. Maybe he got stuck in traffic. Maybe he got attacked by ravenous zombie lawn flamingoes. We don't know. There may be a legitimate excuse for this, and the least we can do is give Bush the benefit of a doubt on something that, when you come right down to it, doesn't matter.

Sure, some people got angry, their feelings were hurt, and people had to wait for a while. That's not good. But compare that with the effects of Bush's actual policies, and this looks trivial. The life of one person (and the wars have resulted in the deaths of many people) is more important to me than all the commemorative ceremonies in the world. I just don't see what the big deal is about this. :?

You're probably right, liberating nations from tyranny is not as important as liberating oil.

A ceremony is not as important as a war. I said nothing about which war was more important than the other. Unless, perhaps, you were deliberately misinterpreting my post to make a joke?

For all we know Air Force One had a flat tire. I'd hestitate to scream pure arrogant jackass with out knowing what's going on. The President of the United States is a bit of a busy man and with the death of a former President as well as nine million other things I think that he might, just maybe, had a good reason.

Then ask a mod to fix it for you, or use the preview function. I'm tired of you just posting anything and everything in OT when it clearly belongs somewhere else.

Typically you give someone the benefit of the doubt if they've shown themselves to be worthy of it in the past. Given that Bush has repeatedly shown that he's an arrogant asshole with considerable disdain for the entire fucking continent of Europe he does not particularly warrant the benefit of the doubt.

Could it be that he is merely reciprocating the disdain Europeans have shown for him?

At least he didn't call them 'Frogs'.

It's not an excuse, but it could be a reason.

Frankly, I could care less if Bush told the French to go take a flying fuck at a rolling doughnut.

On the 60th aniversary of D-Day? In front of a grateful, respectful French populance? When the eyes of the world are upon him?

Well, not then.

Perhaps at a UN meeting.
