To get resources pre-war you want to set up trade agreements on the world market. That's how you get rubber as US. Try to stockpile as much as you can while you research industry tech.

The US has ridiculous amounts of steel, coal and a healthy amount of oil. You shouldn't have too much trouble with a trade agreement.

How is HoI multiplayer? It'd be weird not pausing every 15 minutes...

Reduce your supplies to nothing to further speed research. If you don't expect a war, let them run to almost zero, then build them back up again (dissent penalty in latest patch for keeping your supply allowances at 0)

Just ran another game as Poland, did much better. I kept Czechoslovakia from falling, and wound up getting military access through their land when Hitler struck. I had 4 30mm armed light tank brigades and 1 30mm medium tank brigade, plus my starting cavalry, and I struck through Slovakia into Dresden, and took the city. Meanwhile, I had a fuckload of artillary and antitank gun supported infantry, and I managed to throw the Hun back at Warsaw and my one port, killing a shit lot of nazis before their air power wore me down.

I ended up with Dresden and Krakow as my only territories, both fell, about 4 months after the initial Nazi invasion.

Although I don't play, I believe that that's supposed to be virtually impossible. Read up on the blitz on Poland and you'll understand, they had no chance.

Nah, they did it a few times. It's in AARs somewhere just look for one about Poland I think most made it past late 1942.

Maybe I'll try this game, it sounds good. Is it similar to Shogun in that you move armies from region to region, and when opposing armies meet you zoom to that battle and take control?

you play sun tzu/machevelli, make alliances, manipulate small nations, ocaasionally bully something out of someone. But when war starts your screwed....

Try the publisher(stratagy first) website instead, it's what I finally had to do.
